Ferris Gearing Up For Gilman Event
Ferris High is planning a big celebration, but no one is sure how big it might be.
Dec. 18 will be Wayne Gilman Day on the Saxons’ campus.
The longtime boys basketball coach, who is battling cancer, could have his 500th win by then.
A program is set for 7 p.m. in the gymnasium, with a reception to follow in the cafeteria.
Players from Gilman’s past teams are asked to contact teammates and let them know about the event so they can attend.
The public also is invited.
Everyone is encouraged to send a letter about Gilman, in care of assistant coach Brian Sachse, to 3020 E. 37th Ave., Spokane, WA 99223. Sachse’s e-mail address is brians@sd81.k12.wa.us. Handwritten letters are preferred.
To help with preparations, the school would also like an RSVP. The phone number is 354-6026. Or, e-mail Sachse, assistant coach Don VanLierop (donaldv@sd81.k12.us) or activities director Bob Crabb (bobc@sd81.k12.us).
Gilman is continuing with chemotherapy treatments but is continuing to teach.
