Churches Gear Up For Regular Worship
Churches all over the Valley are preparing to launch Sunday school programs and fall worship schedules on this weekend.
Many have scheduled picnics, carnivals or other special events to kick off the “back-to-church” season.
Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host a preview of coming attractions Sunday at 10 a.m. Adults will have the opportunity to learn about the fall Christian education classes that are starting up.
The church will also kick off the Young Artist’s Program for children in grades K-12. A potluck lunch will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday while demonstrations on aspects of the program take place. Children can get involved in dance, drama, jazz, handbells, choir and visual arts.
Sunday also marks the first day of the church’s fall worship schedule. Worship services now begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m. each Sunday.

Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will celebrate Rally Day with a ministry fair at 9 a.m. Sunday. All the ministry teams and special interest groups of the church will be on hand with information about their programs. Children and adults can sign up for Sunday school classes and a continental breakfast will be served.
Sunday is the first day of the church’s fall schedule. Each Sunday begins with Sunday school at 9 a.m. followed by worship at 10:30 a.m.

Millwood Community Presbyterian Church will kick off its fall schedule with a free breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. A contemporary worship service begins at 8:30 a.m. and a traditional service starts at 11 a.m.
Also this week, handbell performers David and Cheryl Allen will perform in concert at the church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The concert is free and open to the public.
The church is located at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.
A carnival will start the fall season in style at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway. The fun will be held during the Sunday school hour from 9:20 to 10:20 a.m.
There will be a performance by illusionist Dave Womach and Boz the Clown will be on hand. Carnival games will be set up and children and adults will be able to sign up for Sunday school, Bible study classes and other programs. Refreshments will be served.
Worship services begin at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m.
Worship and Sunday school begin at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday at the Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road. The church will provide sandwiches following the service.
Sunday school classes resume at 9:45 a.m. at Good Shephard Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road. This Sunday there will be music and ice cream while children sign up for classes.
Worship services at the church will now be offered at 8:15 and 11 a.m.
Valley Assembly of God Church will begin its fall worship schedule on Sunday. Services will no being at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday school classes will be held during the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services.
The church is located at 15618 E. Broadway.
Two special events are on the schedule this week at Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive. It starts with a potluck lunch Sunday following the 10:50 a.m. worship service. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a hot dish and a salad or dessert to share.
The church will also show the “Jesus Film for Kids” at 8:30 p.m. Friday. The film will be shown outside, so plan to wear warm clothes and bring a blanket or two.
Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines, will host a carnival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be food, games and entertainment for all ages. The event will be preceded by a casual worship service at 9 a.m.
Precept Bible study beginning
A new Precept Bible study class on Genesis is starting at Berean Bible Church, 10910 E. Boone. The class begins Tuesday and will be offered from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday.

Drama performances scheduled
Several Valley churches are sponsoring three performances of the drama “Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames.” Performances begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at Grace Harvest Fellowship Church at 24th and Sullivan. Plan to arrive early in order to get a seat. Call the church at 926-3254 for more information.
Salad luncheon served Tuesday
St. John Vianney Catholic Church will host its autumn salad luncheon Tuesday at noon. There will be entertainment and door prizes. The suggested donation for the meal is $5. The church is at 503 N. Walnut Road.
Celebrate Grandparents Day
The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will observe Grandparents Day with an barbecue on Sunday following the 10 a.m. worship service. The event is free. The church is at 15319 E. Eighth.
Rummage sale today
A rummage sale will run today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pines Baptist Church, 714 S. Pines. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the church’s benevolence fund, which helps low income people in the community.
