Crashed Plane Dates From 1940S
Wreckage of a small airplane found in a remote area of northwestern Montana is not that of plane missing since 1983, authorities said Monday.
Forest Service officials who hiked to the crash site confirmed the wreckage was from a plane that crashed in the late 1940s or early 1950s, killing four elk hunters, said Flathead County Sheriff Jim Dupont.
The hunters’ bodies were recovered, but officials left the crash debris in place because of its remote location.
