Candidates State Views On Surplus
Southwestern Idaho Democrats want to use some of the state’s record $236 million surplus to construct university buildings, pay 10 percent of each school district’s outstanding bonds and increase the grocery tax credit.
Ten legislative hopefuls laid out their proposals at the Statehouse Thursday.
The candidates backed putting $50million toward adding buildings to university, college and professional-technical campuses. And they suggested paying off portions of outstanding school bonds while continuing to pay 20 percent of the cost of all future such bonds.
They also proposed doubling the grocery tax credit to $30 per person and $60 for people over 65.
