It’S The World’S Video Capital

You’re not alone if about half the new movies you’re interested in seeing show no signs of coming to Spokane.

* Keith Cotter wonders: “Does the word `posted’ on a sign that is posted have some secret meaning or something?”

We suggested that it might have something to do with hunting. But Cotter didn’t buy that explanation. So we’d love to hear from someone who knows what he’s talking about.

* More PT speculation: Coeur d’Alene’s Gail Somers guessed that your Slice host is sort of tall, wears wire-rim glasses, has a neatly trimmed beard and mustache, a ruddy complexion and has children with nontrendy names.

Another North Idaho reader wrote, “It would really blow everybody’s mind to find out that Paul Turner is actually a woman.”

* Slice answer: “My cousin from Copenhagen, Denmark, Eyvind Andersen and his wife Jyetta were visiting us one summer,” wrote Dee Lorenz of Spokane. “After driving by a gated community near our home several times, Jyetta turned to me and asked, `What kind of people live there who have to be locked in every night?’ ”

* Another Slice answer (Hey, it’s up to you to remember the questions): “When my daughter was 4 we had to have her infected tonsils removed,” wrote Lois Hodgson of Pullman. “In 1958, this required a night’s stay in the hospital before surgery.

“She wasn’t upset about the surgery but howled miserably all the way to the hospital because I had to take her away in the middle of a Disney movie.

“It was especially upsetting that her father and brothers continued to watch television as I drug her from the house.”

* One stipulation in an interstate prenup drafted by Bruce Watkins: In the event of divorce, Idaho retains custody of Patty Duke.

* Rough estimate: By our own unofficial count, 431 different news reporters have come and gone at Spokane TV stations this year.

* Restaurant behaviors to be restricted to certain times: “Loud, frequent or extended phlegm-clearing.” J. J. Williams

* Warm-up question: With what TV commercials do your preschool children sing along?

* Today’s Slice questions: What did you use as an emergency substitute for a recipe ingredient that you didn’t have on hand? How did it turn out?
