Don Hewitt Writing Autobiography
Don Hewitt, who created the most successful news broadcast in the history of television, has been guarding one of the best-kept secrets in publishing.
The veteran executive producer of “60 Minutes” is completing his autobiography, “Tell Me a Story,” which will be published next spring by PublicAffairs.
“I wanted to write a book that would be totally honest - a book with no bull,” said Hewitt, 77.
It will include the controversial decision in 1995 to initially withhold a major “60 Minutes” piece featuring tobacco industry whistleblower Jeffrey Wigand, whose story later became the focus of the movie “The Insider.”
