Event Will Benefit Camp Lutherhaven
Camp Lutherhaven, a year-round camp on Lake Coeur d’Alene, celebrates Shoshone Day 2000 on Saturday.
The festivities, to be held at the Shoshone Base Camp on the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River, will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The day will include a logging sports exhibition by the University of Idaho logging sport team and musical entertainment by the Coeur d’Alene Brass Band and the Kellogg High School Jazz Band.
Families can team up in the afternoon for the octathalon. Team events included spike driving, caber toss, backwoods bocce ball, watermelon eating, bed races and pig dressing. Prizes include Silver Mountain Ski passes and hotel accommodations.
Entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for youth age 12-18.
Younger kids can participate in a miniature tractor pull, archery, gold panning and blacksmithing. Food will be available for purchase, and craft booths will be set up. A quilt auction will also be held.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the camp, which is operated by the Lutheran Church. Octathalon participants can register the day of the event or in advance by calling (208) 667-3459.
To reach the event from Spokane or Coeur d’Alene, head east on I-90, take exit 43 and head north on the Coeur d’Alene River Road to mile marker 29.
Fund-raiser will take unusual tack
The benefit for the Muscular Dystrophy Association scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at the downtown DoubleTree Hotel is not your ordinary black-tie affair. Sponsored by Latus Motors, the event is billed as “An Evening with Harley Davidson.”
There will be the usual cocktail hour, silent and live auctions, dinner, music and dancing. But there will also be a boot shine booth, fortune telling and a “parlor” for temporary tattoos and body piercing.” The suggested attire is “blue denim and black leather.” Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by visiting Latus Motors at 7001 E. Trent or by calling 325-3747.
