Stoner’S Versatility Leads Riverside Romp
Tailback Jesse Stoner rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown, threw a TD pass and returned a punt for a score as Riverside rambled to a 62-0 non-league football win over visiting Goldendale on Saturday.
Justin Reeseman added 47 yards and two TDs on five carries for the 2-0 Rams.
Quarterback David Westenskow completed 3 of 5 passes for 30 yards.
Goldendale never crossed midfield.
In another non-leaguer, Dusty Person threw for two TDs and ran for another to guide Cusick (2-0) to a 37-16 win over Lind-Kahlotus (0-2) at Lind on Friday.
Volleyball
Capital of Olympia, last year’s seventhplace team at the State 4A tournament, defeated Lewis and Clark, last year’s fourth-place team, 15-8, 15-7 in the title match of the Kentwood Tournament. LC defeated Kentridge and Thomas Jefferson and lost to Olympia to advance as No. 1 from its pool. Ferris also came out No. 1 from its pool, having defeated Mt. Si, Kent-Meridian and Auburn. The Saxons defeated Kentlake 4-15, 15-8, 15-12 in the match for fifth place. Ferris was limited to nine players by the end of the day after injuries to starters Nicole Brouillard and Courtney Garcea, and backup outside hitter Katie Kirschke.
Anna Noble had 10 kills in 15 attempts to help Colville (4-1, 3-0) to a 3-0 win at Clarkston (0-6, 0-3) in the Border League. Jennifer Mallory added 24 assists and four aces for Colville.… . Also in the Border, Emily Plummer served 20 for 20, including the final six points of the match, and Moscow (2-0, 1-0) held off visiting Post Falls 15-13, 9-15, 15-5. Aubree Johnson led the Trojans (5-1, 1-1) with 14 kills.
Amy Chamberlain totaled 13 kills and five aces as Pullman (3-2, 3-1) rallied for a 3-1 win over Chewelah in the Great Northern League. Kayla Culler and Kaylee Stone had seven digs apiece for Chewelah (1-3, 0-3), which won the first game 15-13 after trailing 11-7.
Wendy Baker led Mead with seven digs, five kills, 17 assists and two aces during a 15-4, 15-11 non-league win at Gonzaga Prep on Friday. G-Prep had originally reported the match as a split.
Cross country
Central Valley’s boys and girls won team championships at Clarkston’s Seaport Invitational. CV’s Kelly Warner won the girls race, finishing the 2.96 miles in 17 minutes, 28 seconds. Lewiston’s Nick Bradley ran 14:26 for a 20-second win over CV’s Nick Erickson… . David Price placed ninth in 16:48 and Melissa Luu finished 17th in 21:59 as Moses Lake’s boys and girls competed in the 3-mile Columbia Basin Invitational at Moses Lake Community Park.
