Lane Rennaker and Rowdy Luark are landing their share of live mounts at Playfair, but don’t ignore Holly Gervais.
Not only did Gervais win Sunday night’s fifth race on 8-1 El Teporocho, she had the courage to climb aboard contentious Jimmy JumpUp in the first, after Jimmy had unseated jockey Connie Sam in the gate.
Sam had to be taken off the rest of her mounts.
Gervais managed to get the horse out quickly and keep him on course for third. Trainers who don’t have a lot of choices right now could do a lot worse.
Still, you’ve got to respect everything Rennaker and Luark wind up on.
Lorenzo Lopez, who’s off to a decent start as well, should have enough tactical speed to stock the pace and kick clear in tonight’s second.
In a duel of horses for the course in the fourth, give Mantis the conditioning edge over Spokane Charlie and Finnish Royalty.
