Mead Survives Scare From Nc
Greater Spokane League volleyball has followed a definite pattern in the early season, but North Central nearly turned the pattern upside-down on Tuesday.
Wendy Baker, Kelicia Shorts and Kari Vagstad had six kills apiece as Mead (2-0) needed to bounce back for a 16-18, 15-4, 15-7, 15-13 win at NC (0-3).
Eleven of the league’s first 15 matches have been sweeps. NC had been swept twice and Mead hadn’t dropped a game.
But the Indians, not Mead, came out sizzling. NC led the first game 6-1, then held off the Panthers’ comeback.
Mead cruised in the second and third games, but had to rally from a 13-8 fourth-game deficit. Match point came on a defensive error.
Amy Oates led NC in kills, blocks and aces.
Also in the GSL, Stefanie Ferrette had five of her 12 kills in the second game and added 11 digs to help Shadle Park (6-2, 3-0) to a 3-0 win over visiting Central Valley (1-2). Shadle’s Ashley Bright returned from an ankle injury to post five blocks. The third game, after a 14-all tie, was decided by Katy Schrader’s ace. Shadle’s next GSL match is Friday at home against Mead… . Meghan Sanborn had nine kills and three aces to lead Lewis and Clark (2-0) to a 3-0 win over visiting East Valley (1-2) in a match that took 46 minutes. LC scored the last 15 points of the first game and the final 10 points of the third… . Gonzaga Prep (2-1) went through just two rotations during the 15-0 second game and finished with a 3-0 sweep at Mt. Spokane. Sarah Everstine had 10 kills and seven digs for G-Prep, and Keva Sonderen’s serving led a comeback after Mt. Spokane led the third game 4-0. Tara Amistoso of the Wildcats (1-2) had 25 digs… . Keri Murray totaled 14 assists and seven digs to help University (1-2) to a 3-1 win over visiting Rogers (0-3). Jodi Schock of Rogers had 13 digs and four blocks… . Ferris (2-0) had a bye.
Rochelle Ruen had nine kills and six digs to help Sandpoint (9-3, 2-0) to a 15-4, 15-6, 15-0 win at Colville in the Border League. Sandpoint finished with 33 digs. Janet Bach of the Indians (3-2, 2-1) had four kills and three blocks… . Also in the league, Zoe Catsiff served the final eight points of the second game and visiting Cheney (2-1) outlasted West Valley 15-7, 15-11, 16-14. Katie Regnier added 11 kills for Cheney. Lauren Parriman of the Eagles (1-2) had eight kills and six digs… . Erin Murphy had six of her 10 digs in the third game to guide Post Falls to a 6-15, 15-7, 15-10 comeback win over Lewiston (2-3, 0-1)… . Amy Stranger totaled 15 assists and four aces to help Coeur d’Alene (1-5, 1-2) to a 15-13, 15-5, 15-4 win over visiting Clarkston (0-6, 0-3).
Sheena Rancourt served nine consecutive points in the second game to help Chewelah (1-2) to a 3-0 win at Deer Park (0-3) in the Great Northern League.

Emily Squires totaled four goals and two assists to guide Cheney (4-1, 3-0) to a 7-3 Border League win at Colville (2-3-1, 0-3). Colville’s Deyna Tripp accounted for two goals and one assist… . Also in the league, Rebecca Sturm’s goal at 38 minutes held up for Sandpoint (5-2, 1-0) during a 1-0 win at West Valley (2-3-1, 1-2).
Katie Harkins had her first hat trick of the season, all three goals within 17 minutes of the first half, and Pullman (3-2-1, 3-0) defeated visiting Deer Park 7-0 in the GNL. Harkins also had five assists on Monday. DP is 2-3, 1-2… . Also in the league, Lacie Wilson scored twice to lead Lakeside (3-1, 3-0) to a 4-0 win at Chewelah (1-4, 0-3).
