Bachmeier, Henson Lead U-Hi Shutout

Senior forwards Ashley Bachmeier and Jessica Henson both had hat tricks Wednesday night to guide University to a 7-0 win over visiting Mt. Spokane in a Greater Spokane League girls soccer opener.

Bachmeier and Henson have both shifted from the midfield position this season. Henson’s goals all came in the first half.

Bachmeier had two second-half goals and added two assists.

U-Hi improved to 6-0 overall. The Wildcats are 3-3.

In other GSL openers, Rachel Lassman scored the first two goals, the decider from 12 yards out after a pass from Tara Bozo, and Ferris (5-2) opened with a 3-1 win over North Central (0-6) at Albi Stadium. Saxons goalkeeper Gina Guyer came out to the top of the goalbox to make a late save on an NC breakaway, with Ferris protecting a 2-1 lead… . Therese Crisp’s shot from 25 yards out at 73 minutes just dipped under the crossbar and lifted Lewis and Clark (4-3) to a 3-2 win at Gonzaga Prep (2-5). … Freshman Elaine Chu set up two second-half goals with crossing passes, helping East Valley (2-4) to a 2-0 win over visiting Shadle Park (2-4).

Jennifer Sherwood crossed a pass to Janie Strait in the middle for a goal at 43 minutes that lifted Mead (5-1) to a 2-1 non-league win over Central Valley (3-1) at Mead Middle School. Mead defender Kim Adams helped hold returning GSL offensive most valuable player Raeanna Jewell to one shot. CV’s Jennie Summers scored at 18 minutes after dribbling 40 yards and beating the Panthers sweeper.

Emily Mues totaled three goals and two assists to guide Moscow (6-2, 1-1) to a 9-0 win over visiting Lakeland (1-7, 0-4) in a Border League match. All of Mues’ scoring came in the first 44 minutes.

Volleyball

Emily Bennett and Megan Guenthner combined to serve 25 of 25 and Moscow (5-2, 2-0) scored the final three points of the match to complete a 15-8, 17-15 Border League win at Lake City (4-8, 1-2).
