Stevens Races Stand After Absentee Count
The counting of a large number of absentee ballots Tuesday did not change any of the close races in last week’s Stevens County primary election.
Incumbent county commissioners Fran Bessermin and Fred Lotze are still out, a $7.8 million Chewelah school bond measure is still a loser and a six-year extension of Fire District 1’s emergency medical service levy is still a winner.
Here are the numbers: Commissioner District 1 - Republicans: Tony Delgado, 1,080; Fran Bessermin, 992. Democrat: Kathy Moss, 966. Delgado had 35.6 percent of all votes cast; Bessermin, 32.7 percent; Moss, 31.8 percent.
