Program offers opportunity

In this day of escalated sports fees that often prohibit low-income, single-parent, and large families from enrolling their kids in these sports programs, the girls softball league in the Spokane Valley deserves a pat on the back.

For many years, this program has provided a summer of softball for hundreds of girls and their families who faithfully cheer them on.

For $40 ($50 for teenagers) the girls have ASA-approved umpires. They play on fields that are dragged, watered down and lined. A uniform shirt is also included. If a girl’s family can’t afford the fee, a scholarship is awarded. No girl is turned away.
