Manito magic at First Friday

It seems as if new art shows never stop coming this time of year. Maybe it’s because art goes well with just about everything—be it listening to music, dining out or shooting pool.
Once again First Friday in Spokane signals the opening of a large number of new exhibits including the “Magic of Manito Park” show at the Chase Gallery in Spokane City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
In this exhibit, painter and printmaker L.R. Montgomery is showing a number of his romantic images of the Duncan Garden, Rose Garden and other sites around Manito Park.
“I have walked through the park nearly every day for the past 17 years,” said Montgomery in a news release. “I’ve grown to know specific trees, plants, animals, season landscapes and people of the park. The Manito series is a major portion of my life’s work.”
The Chase show also includes a photography exhibition of 16 regional photographers including Barbara Murray, Jean Hoerner and Tony Bamonte. The reception runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
The Lorinda Knight Gallery is opening “The Spokane River and the Great Gorge Park” with artwork by 16 artists including painters Andrew Bohl, Kathleen Cavender, Lanny DeVuono, Michelle Forsyth, Caren Furbeyre, Keiko Hara, Melissa Lang, Wendy Franklund Miller, Kay O’Rourke, Peter Presnail and Chris Watts; photographers Dominic Arizona Bonuccelli and Nancy Peterfreund; mixed media artists Rik Nelson and Rita Robillard; and sculptor Tom McClelland.
