Lowdown

This will be one of the more interesting position battles at training camp – Mili, the steady veteran, vs. Stevens, whose production has yet to equal his considerable talent. Mili has carved out two of the best seasons ever by a Seahawks tight end. Mili’s 2003 numbers (46 catches, 492 yards, four touchdowns) nearly mirror his 2002 stats (43-508, 2 TDs). He’s a reliable option in Seattle’s passing attack and a comfortable target for quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. Stevens had 26 receptions as a rookie, but slipped to just six catches last year. The 2002 first-round draft pick is receiving ample first-team repetitions to try to unseat Mili. Hannam (knee) has yet to practice in camp.

Fast fact

Mili broke the team record for catches by a tight end with 46 last year. Mili moved past Mike Tice last year for career touchdown catches (12) by a Seattle tight end.

Quote

“They (Mili and Stevens) are both good players and they should both be on the field. Unfortunately if you’re only playing one tight end, there’s only one in the game. But one of them is going to emerge and hopefully we will make the smart decision because they are both good players.” – Coach Mike Holmgren.
