Yankees 5, Athletics 1: Kevin Brown (9-1) threw four-hit ball over eight shutout innings to beat Barry Zito, and newly signed John Olerud went 3 for 3 with a two-run double on his 36th birthday in host New York’s victory over Oakland.
Rangers 2, Tigers 1: Alfonso Soriano hit a tiebreaking homer, Ryan Drese pitched six strong innings and Texas completed a three-game sweep at Detroit. Drese (8-6) allowed one run and six hits to win for the fourth time in five starts.
Angels 8, Twins 3: Aaron Sele (7-0) won his seventh straight decision with another fine performance against Minnesota, and Jose Guillen drove in three runs for Anaheim in its victory at Minneapolis.
Indians 6, Blue Jays 3 (10): Grady Sizemore hit a two-run double in the 10th inning to help Cleveland beat host Toronto. John McDonald and Matt Lawton homered for the Indians, who have won two straight following a four-game skid.
Royals 6, White Sox 4: Zack Greinke allowed one run in seven innings, and Matt Stairs homered twice in host Kansas City’s victory over Chicago. The game was delayed 24 minutes by a power outage in the ninth.
