Spokane Valley
William Larry Alexander is celebrating his 100th birthday today. He was born Aug. 8, 1904, in Glidden, Wis. He has been a resident of Eastern Washington for 80 years.
He met Elizabeth Werner in Kahlotus, Wash., and they were married May 29, 1934. She died in 1988.
William has two daughters and sons-in-law: Carol and Howard Zehm, Spokane, and Phyllis and Robert Zoyer, Otis Orchards, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He worked in farming and was a finish carpenter.
When asked what has helped him live a long and healthy life, he said hard work and the Lord.
William lives independently, still drives, cooks his own meals, only wears his glasses for fine print and attends church every Sunday.
His most memorable moments in the past 100 years have been the introduction of automobiles, electricity and when man landed on the moon.
