Boy hurt when ATV collides with pickup

From staff reports

A 15-year-old Athol boy was injured Thursday after his off-road vehicle collided head-on with a pickup on a forest road northeast of Hayden, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The boy, whose name was not released, had been driving the ATV eastbound on Forest Service Road 206 when he rounded a corner and crashed into the westbound pickup truck driven by Jakie L. Palmer about 2:50 p.m., said Sgt. Stuart Miller in a press release.

The truck rolled, but it was not known if the Palmer was injured.

The boy was airlifted by MedStar to Kootenai Medical Center with possible injuries to his leg and hip. His condition was not available at press time because he was still in surgery, a hospital spokesman said.

An investigation will continue.
