film
“Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism”
Thin Air Community Radio Film Night sponsors this showing of Robert Greenwald’s documentary analysis of how media empires, such as Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, have been taking control of the public’s right to know. Free popcorn. Not rated. Today. 8 p.m., Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave. $5 donations benefit KYRS 95.3 FM. 747-3807.
“Fahrenheit 9/11”
Michael Moore (“Bowling for Columbine”) takes on the Bush administration’s war on Iraq. Moore’s so-called truth is similar to what Oliver Stone put forth in “JFK.” Yet his shotgun approach of accusation does, at times, hit dead on. At the very least, he’s forcing public debate instead of joining the lock-step march toward war that revered journalists such as Dan Rather tend to do with alarming enthusiasm. Rated R. Today and Saturday. 7:30 p.m., Panida Theater, Sandpoint. $6. (208) 255-7801.
“On Golden Pond”
The free film begins at dusk. Rated PG. Today. Pavillion Park, Liberty Lake. 742-8694.
“Rocky Horror Picture Show”
Midnight movie. Rated R. Today and Saturday. Garland Theatre, 924 W. Garland. $2.50. 458-0792.

Movies in the Park
Free to the public. Saturday. 7 p.m., Greenbluff Community Church, 9108 E. Greenbluff Road.
“The Little Shop of Horrors”
Free film begins at dusk. Rick Moranis plays Seymour Krelborn, who works in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row and purchases a strange plant from an even stranger street vendor. He names the plant after his girlfriend and learns, to his horror, that the plant craves blood and flesh. Rated PG. Saturday. Pavillion Park, Liberty Lake. 742-8694.
Artist Trust Reel Big Deal
An evening of short films by Washington filmmakers. Proceeds benefit the museum’s Art @ Work program and help Artist Trust programs and services for Washington state artists. Thursday. 7 p.m., Northwest Museum of Art & Culture, 2316 W. First. $7/general, $5/students and MAC members. 323-6718.
“Best in Show”
Free film begins at dusk. Following in the same mock-documentary style that he employed in 1996’s “Waiting for Guffman,” writer-director Christopher Guest explores the wacky world of dog shows. More smoothly put together than “Guffman,” “Best in Show” has fewer big-laugh moments. But it remains a brilliant satire, including Guest’s spot-on Southern accent and the dog show itself. There, Fred Willard takes over, providing clueless commentary in strict contrast to his very-properly British colleague (Jim Piddock). Rated PG-13. Aug. 27. Pavillion Park, Liberty Lake. 742-8694.
“Chasing Amy”
Staying true to his New Jersey, guerrilla-filmmaker roots, Kevin Smith (“Clerks,” “Mallrats”) takes baby steps toward maturity with this film about the vagaries of love. Everything seems to fit between Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams) and Holden (Ben Affleck) except that she’s a lesbian. The issue of sex, including sexual orientation, is a target for Smith’s typical brand of raunchy humor. Rated R. Aug. 27 - 28. Garland Theatre, 924 W. Garland. $2.50. 458-0792.
