Virginia (May) English
Lewiston
Graveside service for Virginia (May) English, 87, will be today at 2 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. English, who was born in Ambridge, Pa., died Monday .
She graduated from high school in 1934 in Carbon County, Utah, and from business college in Salt Lake City in 1936.
She married Dwane English in 1936.
They moved to Bremerton from Salt Lake City in 1941 and settled in Lewiston in 1950.
Mrs. English worked for the Lewiston School District as the cafeteria manager at Lewiston High School until retiring in 1977.
Mrs. English then moved to Spokane. She attended Northview Bible Church and later Berean Bible Church.
She was involved in the Child Evangelism Fellowship from 1951 to 1964 and then worked for the American Sunday School Union.
Her husband died in 1985.
Due to health issues, Mrs. English returned to Lewiston in 2000 to be near family.
She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lewiston.
Survivors include three children, Midge Fowler of Wilsonville, Ore., Bill English of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Helen Brotnov of Lewiston; a sister, Charlotte Bettick of Sunnyside, Utah; six grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Bobby Rhodes
Creston, Wash.
Funeral for Bobby Lee Rhodes, 74, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Creston Christian Church, with burial at Creston Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rhodes, who was born in Willow, Ark., died Friday.
He graduated from Carthage High School in Arkansas and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He attended Henderson State College, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He taught for three years in Arkansas and 29 years in Creston. He retired in 1989.
Mr. Rhodes was a member of Creston Christian Church, and was involved in the Creston Community Club and the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Frances; two daughters, Vicky Rhodes of Vancouver, Wash., and Peggy Hansen of Spokane Valley; two sons, Richard Rhodes of Keller, Texas, and Steve Rhodes of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Earl Rhodes of Tallahassee, Fla., and Bill Rhodes of Mountain View, Ark.; a sister, Anna Woods of Mountain View; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Creston Christian Church or the Creston Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
Joseph Lynn
Spokane
Visitation for Joseph E. Lynn, 82, will be today from noon to 8 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Lynn died Tuesday.
Born in Peach, Wash., he attended grade school there and went on to Creston High School.
He moved to Phoenix, where he met Margaret Biederman. They were married in 1949 and moved to Spokane in 1956.
Mr. Lynn worked at Gibson Welding for many years and retired in 1986 from Norweco Inc. as a purchasing agent.
His wife died in 1994.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Pritt of Spokane; a sister, Verna Hilliard of Okanogan, Wash.; and one grandson.

Rose Hodgson
Deer Park
Graveside service for Rose Eleanor Hodgson, 82, will be today at 2 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery. Lauer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hodgson, a longtime resident of Deer Park, died Monday. She was born Rhame, N.D.
She graduated from Tekoa (Wash.) High School as the class valedictorian in 1940.
She worked in Seattle during World War II at Boeing Aircraft, and in 1943 married John Hodgson.
Mrs. Hodgson worked at the Deer Park Hospital and then for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Gardenspot Grange, Deer Park Hospital Auxiliary and AARP.
Survivors include her husband; four children, Mick and Bruce Hodgson, both of Deer Park, Elaine Brummett of Skagway, Alaska, and Dave Hodgson of Centralia, Wash.; one sister, Irene Rosenau of Cheney; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Deer Park Hospital Auxiliary.
Richard Andres
Colville
Memorial service for Richard C. “Dick” Andres, former Stevens County Sheriff, was Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville.
Mr. Andres, 60, died Aug. 6. He was born in Coeur d’Alene.
He grew up in Spokane and Kettle Falls and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1962.
He joined the Army, and worked two years for the Lynnwood (Wash.) Police Department.
He married Mary Braun in 1965 in Kettle Falls.
In 1973 Mr. Andres joined the Stevens County Sheriff’s Department. From 1986 to 1994 he served as the sheriff of Stevens County.
He enjoyed playing golf and cards.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Holly Cummings of Otis Orchards, Christy Collins of Spokane Valley and Libby McInelly of Rice, Wash.; five brothers, Bob Andres of Colville, Bill and Dutch Andres, both of Liberty Lake, Karl Andres of Lynnwood, Wash., and Jim Andres of Port Angeles, Wash.; and nine grandchildren.
Donald Bender
Spokane Valley
Visitation for Donald A. Bender, 80, will be today from noon to 8 p.m. at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Pines Cemetery.
Mr. Bender, who died Sunday, was born in Deer Park.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He worked for many years at Kaiser Aluminum, retiring as a finishing supervisor.
His wife, Floral Bender, died in 1990.
Survivors include three sons, John Bender of Puyallup, Wash., Tommy Bender of Post Falls and Danny Bender of San Diego; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Katherine Rose
Spokane
Funeral Mass for Katherine L. Rose, 52, will be today at 11 a.m. at Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Rose, who was born in Grand Forks, N.D., died Monday. She was a resident of Spokane for more than 50 years.
She was a homemaker and was a former member of St Joseph’s and Mary Queen parishes.
Survivors include three brothers, Clifford Bakken, and Richard and Douglas Rose.

Tillie Steiger
Pullman
Visitation for Tillie Bafus Steiger, 77, will be today and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax.
Funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Graveside service will be at 5 p.m. at Endicott (Wash.) Cemetery.
Mrs. Steiger died Monday. She was born in Endicott, and grew up near Winona, Wash., and attended school there.
She later began a long career as a cook.
In 1962 she moved to Pullman, where she was a cook at Howard’s Cafe and later at Sigma Nu fraternity. She worked for many years as the breakfast cook at Wilmer-Davis Residence Hall at Washington State University. She retired in 1989.
She enjoyed walking around Pullman and liked to travel, taking many trips around the Northwest.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Steiger of Genesee, Idaho; and a sister, Rosie Shawgo of Lamont, Wash.
Edward Hatcher
Deer Park
Memorial service for Edward Wallace Hatcher, 66, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Country Church of the Open Bible in Elk, with a potluck to follow at the home of Jim and Pam Smiley, 39211 N. Jackson Road, in Elk. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hatcher, a lifelong resident of the Spokane area, died Monday.
He worked for the railroad, and was a director for the foster grandparents program at Lakeland Village. He was a member of the Umpire Association of Spokane and also taught umpiring.
Mr. Hatcher was a foster parent for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki; a son, Edward Hatcher; three daughters, Faith Boblick, Edna Moore and Elaine Willes; three stepdaughters, Shelly Wall, Shannon Wall and Natalie McNamee; and a sister, Carole Schultz of Deer Park.
Beatrice Kolowinski
Colfax
Funeral for Beatrice Kolowinski, 88, will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax, with vault interment at Bethel Cemetery in Steptoe, Wash. Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kolowinski died Friday.
She was born and raised in Scranton, N.D., and graduated from high school there in 1934.
In 1938 she married Thomas Kolowinski, and they moved to Puyallup for a few months before settling in Eastern Washington near Steptoe. They moved to Colfax in 1959.
Mrs. Kolowinski was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Eagles Auxiliary, Grandmothers Club and the Steptoe Grange.
Her husband died in 1990.
Survivors include five children, Joan Rose of Wakefield, R.I., June Jackson of Waldorf, Md., Jean Brassfield of Anchorage, Alaska, Jerry Kolowinski of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Arlene Lieurance of Bothell, Wash.; a sister, Myrna Keller of Wisconsin; a brother, Clayton Ensign of North Dakota; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
