Feline narcissism, ad infinitum
What it is: The brainchild of graphic designer Mike Stanfill, the Infinite Cat Project (at www.infinitecat.com) is basically a long series of pictures of cats looking at pictures of other cats.
What it’s all about: According to the site, the project started when a user posted a picture of his cat on a forum Stanfill participated in.
Another user posted a picture of his cat looking at the photo of the original cat on a computer monitor, and Stanfill’s sublimely silly idea was born.
Why we like it: There’s just something inexplicably cheering about all this effort expended in the name of nothing but absurdity.
Why bother to post a whole bunch of pictures of cats looking at pictures of cats?
Because it’s funny.
Because it’s entertaining.
Because … why not?
Besides, if you’re a pet lover, you never tire of places to immortalize your furry friends, and since the Infinite Cat Project is always accepting new photos of cats looking at cats looking at cats looking at – you get the idea – Fluffy can still get in on the fun.
Pull up the last picture in the chain, position your fabulous feline in front of the screen, snap away and send it in.
The site even includes a few tips on how to get your cat to cooperate in the picture-taking process, which will come in hand if your cat is anything like, well, a cat.
Sure, you’ve got better things to do with your time.
But if you need a pointless and oddly fascinating respite from the important things in life – and really, who doesn’t? – the Infinite Cat Project certainly fits the bill.
