Ah, wilderness!

Friday marks the 40th anniversary of The Wilderness Act, the legislation signed by President Lyndon Johnson that has helped assure that America’s grandest landscapes — from the Florida Everglades to the Washington Coast — would remain wild .

Starting next Sunday, Outdoors Editor Rich Landers will begin producing a series of stories celebrating and analyzing the Wilderness Preservation System. While Landers has explored many of the nation’s choice wilderness areas by muscle power, we want to hear from our readers, too.

Got a memorable wilderness experience? E-mail us your story in 300 words or less, or contact Rich Landers at 459-5508 or richl@spokesman.com.
