Holiday program planned at St. John’s

The Spokane Youth Orchestra and Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will present a free family holiday program, “American Carols,” on Sunday at 4 and 7 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral, 127 E. 12th Ave.

“American Carols” is an arrangement of 13 traditional songs from the 1860s and earlier by Spokane composer William Berry. This year’s concert also features original compositions by clarinetist Jim Sandberg, a four-year Youth Orchestra member. The Silver Spurs International Folk Youth Dance Group also will perform.

An Irish Christmas

Christmas will have a Celtic tinge in “An Irish Christmas” tonight and Friday at The Met, featuring An Dochas, the Haran Irish Dancers and Michael Londra.

An Dochas is a five-piece Irish fusion band from Colville. The Haran Irish Dancers are an award-winning Celtic dance group from Kettle Falls and Spokane. Londra is a former lead singer in the Broadway production of “Riverdance.”

Showtime is 8 p.m. both nights at The Met, 901 W. Sprague Ave. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

Coeur d’Alene Symphony

The Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra will present its “Christmas Showcase” concerts on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at North Idaho College’s Schuler Auditorium.

Cecylia Arzewski, concertmaster for the Atlanta Symphony, will be featured in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Other performers will include Kay Damiano, Horace Alexander Young and The Red Hot Mamas.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for students, through TicketsWest.

Gonzaga Christmas Candlelight Concerts

The Gonzaga University Choir will present its 118th annual Christmas Candlelight Concerts on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Ave.

Joining the singers will be the Clarion Brass Choir. Advance tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, through TicketsWest. All tickets are $15 at the door.

Spokane British Brass Band

The Spokane British Brass Band presents “An Olde English Christmas” on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Spokane Falls Community College Music Building Auditorium (Building 15).

The concert will feature old English pieces in the first half and Christmas pieces in the second half, including local composer William Berry’s “Nutcracker Suite Dreams.”

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, through TicketsWest and at the door.
