The Lashes opens for Harvey Danger at Fat Tuesday’s
When Ben Clark was 17 in Spokane, he picked up a copy of the Stranger’s cover story on Harvey Danger.
It was about how a bunch of normal guys had a goal and worked for it. The article blueprinted HD’s road to rock stardom, but more importantly to Clark, it was proof that he could do it, too.
“I showed the article to my mom and I told her, ‘It’s a long shot, but it does work out for some people,’ ” Clark said during a telephone interview from Seattle.
Nearly a decade later, Clark’s Seattle dirt-pop quintet The Lashes signed with Columbia Records last week and is opening for Harvey Danger tonight at 8 p.m. at Fat Tuesday’s, 109 W. Pacific Ave. Also on the bill is Portland’s Velabohz. Tickets for the all-ages show are $15 through TicketsWest.
“Coming back home and opening for Harvey Danger is a big deal,” said 26-year-old Clark. “Kids come up to me asking for advice on how to get into the music business. I was that kid.”
The Lashes took the back door into the Seattle music scene with audacious media savvy and catchy industry-snob-party-
crashin’ anthems, such as “Death By Mixtape” and “It’s Your Party,” which are named after Seattle music columns. Both songs appear on The Lashes’ August debut EP on Lookout Records, “The Stupid Stupid.”
Skate punk faves Harvey Danger just released a new EP featuring “Sometimes You Have to Work on Christmas (Sometimes)” along with rarities and previously unreleased tracks.
