Brazile gets 3rd straight world title
LAS VEGAS – Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, won his third straight world all-around title Friday night in the eighth round of the National Finals Rodeo.
Brazile, the first cowboy to win three consecutive all-around titles since Ty Murray in 1989-91, has earned $253,160 this season in team roping, steer roping and tie-down roping. Second-place Stran Smith of Childress, Texas, has made $177,980 and third-place Blair Burk of Durant, Okla., has earned $154,239.
Jackie Dube of Giddings, Texas, won her second straight barrel racing round with a 13.72-second run, just off the record of 13.63 set by Tammy Key in 2002. Paula Seay of Lake Butler, Fla., followed in 13.95, and Molly Powell of Simms, Mont., was third in 13.99.
In steer wrestling, Shawn Greenfield of Lakeview, Ore., won with a 3.1-second run, a tenth off the world record set by Steve Duhon in 1986 and matched by Bryan Fields in 2001. World leader Luke Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif., was second in 3.3, and Lee Graves of Canada and Rope Myers of Van, Texas, tied for third in 3.5.
Fred Boettcher of Tomah, Wis., topped the bull riders with a 91-point ride on Growney Brothers Rodeo’s Wild Side. Matt Austin of Wills Point, Texas, was second with an 87.5, and Beau Hill of West Glacier, Mont., finished third with an 86.
In saddle bronc, world leader Billy Etbauer of Edmond, Okla., won with an 89.5-point ride. Ryan Mapston of Geyser, Mont., was second with an 85, and Ira Slagowski of Plain City, Utah, was third with an 83.
Cody DeMers of Twin Falls, Idaho, won the bareback with an 88.5-point ride. World leader Kelly Timberman of Mills, Wyo., was second with an 87.5, and Cimmaron Gerke of Brighton, Colo., finished third.
The teams of Travis Tryan of Billings, Mont., and Kirt Jones of Decatur, Texas, and earnings leaders David Key of Caldwell, Texas, and Clay O’Brien Cooper of Glen Rose, Texas, tied for first in team roping with 4.0s.
Jerome Schneeberger of Ponca City, Okla., won the tie-down roping in 7.5 seconds.
