MP3Run
I like off-road running and I hate repeating the same route. So when Nike Inc. and Royal Philips Electronics NV came out this fall with a combination music player/FM radio designed for tracking time and distance, I was game.
It’s remarkable how much functionality is built into the 3 inch-wide circuit board that’s the guts of the Nike Philips MP3Run, which is an inch thick and rides on your upper arm in a molded plastic sheath on a velcroed elastic strap.
A combination pedometer/Bluetooth wireless transmitter that gets affixed to one of your sneakers completes this gadgetry, not counting the hinged earbuds, which fit snugly.
The 2.25-ounce device has 256 megabytes of memory that’ll store at least a couple hours of music and a clean LCD display. Ten FM station presets can be programmed, and the PC and Mac software that ships with the MP3Run includes two programs: one for organizing your music, the other for viewing your uploaded workouts in graphic form.
Oh, one more thing; You can drop this pod a half dozen times — as I did — and it won’t get hurt.
