Durazo hits milestone for St. Michael’s

Milestones are always sweeter when they come during a victory.

Carlos Durazo of St. Michael’s notched his 1,500th career point early in the Warriors’ Panorama League home game against Springdale.

Durazo’s 1,527th career point completed a fourth-quarter comeback and helped secure the Warriors’ first league victory of the season, 52-48.

Durazo topped all scorers with 32 points.

Geno Longoria scored 22 to lead the Chargers.

Inchelium 73, Wellpinit 64: The host Hornets used a big fourth quarter to defeat the Redskins for their first league win. Lance Ragan pumped in 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Inchelium, which outscored Wellpinit 23-10 in the final period. Richard Williams added 20 points for the Hornets, and Don Gronlund totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sage Sonneck led Wellpinit with 20 points. … Curlew 70, Northport 34: The Cougars scored 30 points in the first quarter and ran away from the host Mustangs. Cameron Kroupa pumped in 23 points for Curlew and Cody Groth added 18 more, including a pair of dunks. …Republic 75, Columbia 35: Brothers Zach and Derek Gianukakis scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, to lead the Tigers over the visiting Lions. But it may have been a costly victory: Republic’s post, Gaeb Giddings, went down with an ankle injury. … St. George’s 57, Selkirk 37: The Dragons cleaned the boards to defeat the visiting Rangers for their fourth straight league victory. Henry Butler pumped in 25 points to lead St. George’s, which took a 36-19 rebounding advantage. Butler converted 14 of 14 free-throw attempts, 12 of them in the fourth quarter.

Hodgson lifts Liberty

Andy Hodgson scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the second half to lead Liberty to a 52-50 victory over visiting Wilbur-Creston. Dan Templeton added 10 points for the Lancers. Joel Sherwood paced the Wildcats with 12 points. … Northwest Christian 86, Odessa 29: The Crusaders charged to the home win at Colbert behind the 19-point effort of Josh Greer. David Johnson put up 21 points to lead the Tigers. … Valley Christian 62, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 46: Nick Crooks scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers past the visiting Warriors. VC’s Josh Pope added 15 points and nine rebounds. … Lind-Ritzville 71, Sprague-Harrington 35: Cameron Stevenson pumped in 22 points as the Broncos romped past the host Falcons at Sprague. Nick Ashley contributed a dozen points for Lind-Ritzville. Terry Kissler’s 10 points led the Falcons.

Bowen sparks Eagles past L-W

St. John-Endicott needed a 20-11 fourth-quarter rally to hold off visiting LaCrosse-Washtucna in a Whitman County League game at St. John. Kurt Bowen scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles, converting 10 of 12 free-throw attempts in the second half. Jesse Burcher added 14 points and Brent Leifer 11 for SJE. Matt Martin scored 19 to lead the Tigercats, with Kyle Lepper adding another 14. … Tekoa-Oakesdale 83, Colton 67: Derek Flock poured in 37 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds to lead the Nighthawks past the visiting Wildcats. Kyle Schultheis led the Wildcats with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists. … Asotin 75, Rosalia 32: Josh Johnson’s 17 points paced the Panthers to the win over the visiting Spartans. Chaz Appleton and Brian Schinder each added 12 points for Asotin. Nick Bronowski’s 10 points led Rosalia.

Soelberg rescues Freeman

Malcolm Soelberg drilled a 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds left to give Freeman a 50-49 victory over host Lake Roosevelt at Coulee Dam. Luke Heinen was the lone Scotties player to reach double figures, scoring 10 points. Nick Barnaby had 17 to lead Lake Roosevelt. … Kettle Falls 76, Timberlake 53: Kettle Falls started fast and ended fast to defeat the Tigers and claim the Newport Christmas Tournament championship. The Bulldogs took a 24-9 lead after one quarter and finished with a 25-15 run through the fourth quarter. KF’s Zac Barber poured in 28 points by hitting 68 percent from the field – including 3 of 7 from 3-point range. … Priest River 46, Newport 40: The Spartans defeated the host Grizzlies to claim the third-place trophy in the Newport Christmas Tournament. The Spartans were pace by the 12-point effort of Randy Cork. Bradford Stratton led the Grizzlies with 11 points.

Jake Lefors scored 16 points, hitting 12 of 14 from the line, as visiting Moscow (7-0) defeated the La Grande (Ore.) Tigers 55-41 in non-league play.
