Arizona State pummels Northwestern

Steve Moore scored 18 points to lead five Arizona State players in double figures and the Sun Devils pulled away for a 90-55 rout of Northwestern on Monday night in Tempe, Ariz.

Ike Diogu scored 12 of his 17 in the second half, when the Sun Devils outscored the Wildcats 55-23.

Arizona State improved to 8-1, its best start since the 1990-91 season, and won its sixth in a row, the first time that’s happened since 1998-99.

Tyrone Jackson and Serge Anguono scored 12 apiece and Jason Braxton added 10 for the Sun Devils.

T.J. Parker topped Northwestern (4-5) with 14 points.

Top 25 men

Hakim Warrick had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Syracuse’s pressing defense forced 17 turnovers in the second half to lead the Syracuse Orangemen (10-1) to an 82-69 win over the Cornell Big Red (3-6) in Syracuse, N.Y.

Cody Toppert scored 23 points, going 7 for 10 from long range, and had seven assists to lead Cornell.

(21) Mississippi St. 104, Florida A&M 80: Lawrence Roberts scored 25 points and Winsome Frazier added 24 to lead the Bulldogs (10-2) to a victory over the Rattlers (2-6) in Starkville, Miss.

Tony Tate led the Rattlers with 17 points.

(22) Cincinnati 95, Jackson State 43: Freshman reserve Roy Bright had a career-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Bearcats (8-0) roll to a victory over the visiting Tigers (3-8).

Coach Bob Huggins got his 550th career win, improving his record at Cincinnati to 382-119 in 16 seasons.

Women’s Top 25

Mistie Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Laura Kurz had 11 points and seven rebounds and the third-ranked Duke Blue Devils (11-1) beat the Ball State Cardinals (3-6) 81-31 in Muncie, Ind., for their ninth straight victory. Duke held an opponent to less than 30 percent shooting for the eighth time this season.

(16) Vanderbilt 86, BYU 47: At Malibu, Calif., Dee Davis scored 21 points to lead the Commodores (8-1) to a lopsided victory over the Cougars (6-3) in the Hilton Woodland Hills Beach Classic. … (17) Maryland 83, Coppin St. 51: At College Park, Md., Kalika France scored 20 points, and the Terrapins (8-1) never trailed in an a win over the Eagles (6-3). … Long Beach State 54, (19) Houston 52: At Long Beach State, Calif., the 49ers (4-3) jumped out to a 35-27 lead at the half and held on for an upset win over the Cougars (9-2).
