Newport (5-2) scored 40 first-half points Tuesday night to build a 13-point lead during a 71-59 non-league win over visiting West Valley.
Maria Barranco totaled 36 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies. Newport’s Alicia Smith put up a double-double, grabbing 10 boards and scoring 10 points.
Krystal McCarthy’s 17 points led the Eagles (0-6), who converted 12 of 15 shots from the free-throw line.
