Jamaal Williams is determined to make a big contribution for No. 12 Washington this season.

Williams, a transfer from New Mexico, scored a career-high 22 points in 18 minutes on Wednesday night to lead a school-record eight Huskies in double figures in a 114-53 rout of Sacred Heart.

“I can’t guarantee that every night, but I’ll try,” said the 6-foot-5 junior forward, who was 11 for 12 from the field.

Williams is an inside presence the Huskies didn’t have last season on the team that finished second in the Pac-10 and played in the NCAA tournament.

Williams, who doesn’t start, specializes on short jump hooks and dunks.

“That’s a lot of points in the paint,” he said.

Freshman Joel Smith had 15 points for the Huskies (9-1) and Bobby Jones had 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Tre Simmons and Nate Robinson each scored 13 points, Mike Jensen had 12, Will Conroy 11 and little-used reserve Brandon Burmeister 10 for Washington, which won its fifth straight since losing to No. 13 Gonzaga. Conroy, the Huskies’ point guard, tied his career high with 13 assists.

Freshman Luke Granato had 15 points – all on 3-pointers – for the Pioneers (1-7), who dropped their sixth straight.

The Huskies led 55-31 at halftime.

It was the first meeting between the schools. Sacred Heart is from Fairfield, Conn.

The Huskies didn’t play junior swingman Brandon Roy, who played 18 minutes for the Huskies in their victory over North Carolina State last Sunday in Seattle. Roy missed the previous five games following arthroscopic knee surgery.

Oregon 71, Winthrop 56

Aaron Brooks scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Ducks over the Eagles in Eugene, Ore.

Brooks scored 15 of his points in the first half as the Ducks took a 36-27 lead.

The sophomore point guard was 8 for 13 from the field and 4 for 8 from the 3-point line, tying his career high for 3-pointers.

Malik Hairston also scored 17 for the Ducks (7-1), who shot nearly 45 percent and committed a season-low 10 turnovers in their 30th straight non-conference victory at McArthur Court.

Phillip Williams and Torrell Martin each scored 12 points to pace the Eagles (7-4) of Rock Hill, S.C.

Arizona St. 68, Santa Clara 63

Ike Diogu scored 21 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked a career-best seven shots to lead Sun Devils over the Broncos in Tempe, Ariz.

Diogu was 7 of 13 from the field and grabbed 17 defensive rebounds as the Sun Devils (9-1) took advantage of the Broncos’ 35 percent field-goal shooting.

Santa Clara (7-5) missed shots in the final minute after getting within 66-63 with 25.4 seconds remaining on Ethan Rhode’s 3-pointer.

California 69, Hampton 46

Richard Midgley scored 25 points to lead the Bears’ further depleted lineup past the Pirates in the first round of the Golden Bear Classic in Berkeley, Calif.

Former walk-on Martin Smith added career highs of 10 points and eight assists for the Bears (6-3), who returned to action after an 11-day break for final exams.

Cal advances to today’s title game against Pepperdine, a 91-82 winner over Arkansas State in the day’s opener.

Hampton (3-7) will face Arkansas State in the consolation game.

Cal forward Marquise Kately served a one-game suspension for failure to meet a team responsibility. He will play today.

Without Kately, and because of injuries, the Bears suited seven scholarship players.

USC 81, Alabama-Birmingham 78

Rory O’Neil hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 5 seconds left as the Trojans defeated the Blazers in the semifinals of the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.

Gabriel Pruitt scored 15 points, Lodrick Stewart 14, and O’Neil and Nick Young had 13 apiece to lead USC (6-3). Donell Taylor scored 19 points to lead UAB (6-3), while twin brother Ronell Taylor and Demario Eddins added 11 apiece.

In the tournament finals, the Trojans play the winner of Wednesday’s late Oral Roberts–Hawaii game.

Stanford 71, Dartmouth 54

Dan Grunfeld scored 15 points to help the Cardinal win their 17th straight home game, a victory over the Big Green at Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal (5-4) won their third straight. No one scored more than nine points for Dartmouth (3-6), which lost its third straight.
