Coeur d’Alene unleashes rash of 3-pointers
Coeur d’Alene unleashed a long-range barrage against a visiting team from Nelson, British Columbia, burying L.V. Rogers 98-69 in a non-league boys basketball game Thursday in Coeur d’Alene.
The Vikings drilled 16 of 41 from 3-point range, including 10 of 18 in the second half to break open a game in which they led by five points at intermission. Coeur d’Alene scored 62 second-half points.
Matt Palmer hit 6 of 12 from long range to lead the Vikings with 30 points. Over his past five games, Palmer has connected on 27 3-pointers.
Austin Heleker contributed 13 points for Coeur d’Alene (3-3).
West Valley-Yakima 65, Lake City 40: The host Rams captured the title of the Central Washington Holiday Hoops Classic, building a 32-13 lead at intermission. Ben Widmyer and Kory Kreighbaum each scored 11 points for the Timberwolves (6-4). …Lakeside-Plummer 77, Post Falls Christian 53: The Knights (9-0) took control out of the gate, building a 22-10 lead after one quarter to capture their tournament championship in Plummer. Mike Sifford tossed in 20 points to lead four players in double figures for Lakeside. Tim Wolfe added 13 points, Keith Greensky 11 and Arthur Elwell 10 for Lakeside. Tim Laux had 16 points for the Eagles (8-4). …Sandpoint 73, St. Maries 26: The Bulldogs had four players score in double figures as the team roared to a 40-8 lead at intermission. Anthony Sorentino led the barrage with 13 points. Chris Hepperly and Chase Lowther each added 11 points, and Paul DiBenedetto 10. … Moscow 69, North Central 64: The Bears roared back in the fourth quarter, overcoming a 15-point deficit at Moscow to earn the non-league victory. Jake Lefors scored 21 points, connecting on 15 of 20 free-throw attempts, to lead Moscow (8-0). John Mosman added 15 points and Paul Wimer 13 for Moscow. NC (3-4), got 19 points from Eric Beal, but none in the fourth quarter because of foul trouble. … Selkirk 59, Priest River 57: The Rangers overcame a six-point halftime deficit with a 21-10 run in the third quarter, and held off a late rally from Priest River to earn the home win at Ione. Clint March scored 13 points, Travis Zimmerman 11 and Mikki Cromwell 10 to lead Selkirk. Jake Flaherty’s 18 led the Spartans. PR’s Jeremy Patterson adding 11 points.

Bulldogs chew up St. Maries
Sandpoint snarled to a 30-18 lead at halftime and cruised to a 59-37 home win over St. Maries. Kelsey James scored 13 points, and Tori Allmaras and Ashleigh Mire each added 11 for the Bulldogs (7-3). Ashley Oakley contributed 11 rebounds. St. Maries (4-5) got 11 points from Kristi Smith.
Lakeside-Plummer 54, Post Falls Christian 19: The Knights (4-5) took a 19-4 lead after one quarter and cruised to the consolation win in their tournament at Plummer. Corrina Hendrickx scored 21 points and collected six steals to lead Lakeside. The Knights’ Wynonna Johnson added six points, seven steals and seven rebounds. … Cusick 68, Inchelium 55: The Panthers (8-1) clawed to the Lakeside Tournament title at Plummer behind the 26 points and 18 rebounds of Cara Shepherd. Chelsi Pakootas scored 14 for Inchelium (6-3).

Tie goes to Loggers
It pays to score early. St. Maries and Lewiston wrestled to a 39-all non-league tie, but the host Loggers won the match on criteria. Both teams won seven matches. Each team had six wins by pin or forfeit.
The deciding factor was first points – St. Maries scored first in seven matches. Loggers Kyle Joiner (160 pounds) and Kyle Payne (119) each ran their season record to 14-0. Joiner scored a third-round pin, but Payne needed a second-period escape to score a 1-0 victory over Lee Wright.
