Chiefs grab Austrian Grabner during import draft

The Spokane Chiefs selected forward Michael Grabner of Austria with the 22nd pick of Wednesday’s Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

Grabner, 16, a 5-foot-11, 170-pounder from Villach, split 44 games between the Austrian junior and men’s league last season.

He finished with 59 goals and 85 points.

Men’s basketball

Teva Sempel of Lake City and Sean Palmer of Coeur d’Alene are among the athletes who accepted scholarships to play for North Idaho College.

Sempel averaged 17.2 points and eight rebounds per game. Palmer averaged 16.6 points and three assists.

Also coming to NIC: center Steve Cobbley, Pocatello, Idaho; wing Robert Collins, Dania, Fla.; point guard Keelan Donald, Chicago; guard/wing Jovan Lincoln, Portland; wing Michael Hardy, Pearl City, Hawaii; and forward Ante Pikunic, Croatia.

Triathlon

Highlights from Sunday’s Ironman USA Coeur d’Alene will be shown at 4 p.m. Saturday on KXLY, channel 4.

The hour-long special will showcase the athletes and the scenic course.
