• Ask an elderly bachelor and spinster which were the happiest years of their lives, and they’ll usually name years before age 25. Put the same query to an elderly husband and wife, and they’ll probably say some years between ages 25 and 45. Surveytakers insist they have confirmed this, repeatedly.
