Tractor driver struck by train
A 63-year-old Bonners Ferry, Idaho, man was injured Tuesday when the tractor he was driving was hit by a train, the Idaho State Police reported.
Larry Peterson was westbound on Kootenai County Road 19 near Bonners Ferry about 3:20 p.m., pulling a furrowing implement with his John Deere tractor.
Peterson failed to yield to a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train, which struck the tractor, tossing Peterson, ISP said. The furrowing attachment became separated from the tractor, and struck the right side of the train.
Peterson was taken by ambulance to a Boundary County hospital, and then airlifted by MedStar to Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane where he was listed in serious condition Tuesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
