White Sox 5, Athletics 2: At Oakland, Calif., Freddy Garcia won for the third time in four starts since his trade to the White Sox, leading Chicago over the Athletics. Paul Konerko, Carlos Lee and Aaron Rowand homered for the White Sox, who won for only the second time in their last 17 games at Oakland. Garcia (7-8) is 3-1 with a 3.95 ERA since Seattle dealt him to the White Sox on June 27.

Twins 4, Royals 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Johan Santana allowed one hit in eight innings, and Lew Ford and Justin Morneau backed him with consecutive home runs, leading Minnesota over the Royals. Santana (8-6) improved to 6-2 with a 1.43 ERA in his last eight starts, allowing only a leadoff double to Angel Berroa in the second inning as Minnesota stopped a five-game losing streak.

Rangers 4, Blue Jays 0: At Arlington, Texas, Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer. and Ricardo Rodriguez (3-0) combined with three relievers on a shutout to lead Texas over Toronto. Teixeira became the fifth-youngest switch-hitter to hit at least 20 homers in his first two seasons.

Yankees 5, Tigers 3: At Detroit, Orlando Hernandez (2-0) won his second straight start since the Yankees brought him up, and New York beat the Tigers for its sixth victory in seven games. Gary Sheffield homered and drove in three runs for the Yankees.

Orioles 3, Devil Rays 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Miguel Tejada had three hits and an RBI, leading Rodrigo Lopez (7-5) and Baltimore to a victory over Tampa Bay. Lopez (7-5) allowed one run on five hits, struck out one and walked five in 5 1/3 innings.

Angels 8, Red Sox 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Vladimir Guerrero and Adam Kennedy homered, and Bartolo Colon (7-8) pitched six solid innings to lead the Angels over Boston.
