Cardinals 11, Cubs 8: Albert Pujols hit his third homer of the game in the ninth inning, a tiebreaking shot that sent St. Louis to a comeback win in Chicago. Pujols went 5 for 5 with a double and five runs batted in.

Giants 3, Diamondbacks 1: At Phoenix, Jerome Williams outpitched Randy Johnson, allowing four hits over seven-plus innings to help San Francisco hand Arizona its ninth consecutive defeat.

Phillies 4, Braves 3 (10): Bobby Abreu’s RBI single in the 10th moved Philadelphia back into a first-place tie in the N.L. East with a come-from-behind win in Atlanta.

Marlins 9, Mets 7: Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs as Florida, despite blowing a six-run lead, won in New York.

Padres 9, Rockies 7: Ryan Klesko homered and drove in three runs, Khalil Greene had a homer and two RBIs, and Adam Eaton outpitched Jason Jennings as San Diego topped Colorado at Denver.

Dodgers 7, Astros 5: At Houston, Adrian Beltre hit his 25th homer and had three RBIs to lead Los Angeles to its eighth consecutive victory.

Reds 6, Brewers 2: Brandon Claussen pitched seven impressive innings in his long-awaited N.L. debut, and Jason Romano’s first homer sent Cincinnati to a win over visiting Milwaukee.

Pirates 2, Expos 1: Rookie Sean Burnett limited the Expos to one run in seven innings as Pittsburgh beat visiting Montreal.
