False anthrax threats result in prison term
BOISE — A man accused of sending false anthrax threats to 32 area businesses and agencies will spend at least one year in prison.
Sandy Kevin Lamont Nanney, 39, pleaded guilty in May to one count of threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped four additional counts.
Nanney was sentenced up to 10 years in prison, and is eligible for parole after one year.
Prosecutors said Nanney sent anonymous, threatening letters containing a nontoxic powder to dozens of businesses, government offices and hospitals in Ada and Canyon counties last year. Several of the offices were evacuated in response to the threats.
