Yankees 8, Red Sox 7: After Kevin Millar tied the score in the eighth with his third solo home run of the night, Alex Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the ninth that gave New York a win in Boston and extended the Yankees’ lead to 9 1/2 games in the East Division.

Rangers 8, Athletics 3: Kevin Mench hit a three-run homer during the Rangers’ sixth-inning rally as Texas snapped Mark Mulder’s 11-game winning streak with a win in Oakland. Kenny Rogers joined Mulder as the majors’ only 13-game winners with his 18th straight victory at the Coliseum.

White Sox 6, Tigers 4: Carlos Lee hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs as Chicago beat visiting Detroit. Esteban Loaiza (9-5) allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings to win for the first time in four starts since he beat the Cubs on June 27.

Twins 7, Orioles 3: Corey Koskie homered and had a season-high four RBIs to lead Minnesota to a victory in Baltimore, the team’s fifth straight win. Jacque Jones also homered for the first-place Twins.

Indians 3, Royals 2 (11): Ben Broussard homered on a 3-0 count with one out in the 11th inning, lifting Cleveland to a win over visiting Kansas City. The Indians have played more extra-inning games than anyone in baseball and are 8-11 in extras.

Blue Jays 7, Devil Rays 4: Frank Menechino had three hits, including a solo homer, as Toronto scored six unearned runs in the third inning of a win over visiting Detroit.
