Monday’s games
Cardinals 9, Reds 6 (11): At Cincinnati, Tony Womack singled with the bases loaded in the 11th inning, sparking a four-run rally that sent St. Louis to a win over the fading Reds. Cincinnati lost its sixth in a row. The Reds blew a pair of leads and fell to .500 for the first time since May 13.
Cubs 3, Brewers 1: At Milwaukee, Matt Clement (8-9) won for the first time since June 8 and Mark Grudzielanek had three hits and two RBIs in Chicago’s win over the Brewers. The Brewers, who have lost nine of 12 since the All-Star Break, were 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.
Braves 4, Pirates 2: At Pittsburgh, Jaret Wright and four Atlanta relievers shut down the Pirates in what might have been Kris Benson’s last start for Pittsburgh. J.D. Drew ran his hitting streak to 22 games with a single in Atlanta’s go-ahead fourth inning against Benson (8-8), who is expected to be dealt by Saturday’s deadline for trading without waivers.
Marlins 11, Phillies 3: At Miami, Jeff Conine sparked a struggling offense with a three-run double, A.J. Burnett survived five rocky innings and Florida extended its mastery over Philadelphia. The Phillies have lost 11 consecutive games in Miami, including four this year. They’re 1-8 against the Marlins this season.
Expos 19, Mets 10: At Montreal, Tony Batista had four hits and a career high six RBIs to help the Expos extend their season-high winning streak to five with a win over New York. Mets rookie David Wright hit his first major league home run, a solo shot in the second, and Richard Hidalgo homered twice for New York. Mets infielder Todd Zeile pitched the eighth, allowing five runs.
Diamondbacks 4, Astros 1: At Houston, Arizona snapped its club-record 14-game losing streak, beating the Astros behind starter Brandon Webb (4-11). Astros starter Andy Pettitte (6-4) came out after the fifth inning because of his troublesome left elbow.
Dodgers 9, Rockies 7: At Denver, Milton Bradley broke out of a slump with three hits and three RBIs, Adrian Beltre hit his 28th homer and Los Angeles beat Colorado for its ninth straight victory on the road.
Padres 3, Giants 3: At San Diego, rookie shortstop Khalil Greene hit a two-run home run and Brian Giles drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh as the Padres edged San Francisco.
