Computer problems result in Idaho extending license sales one day

The Spokesman-Review

Because of weekend troubles with computers handling Idaho hunting license sales, the deadline for big-game controlled hunt applications has been extended through today.

The normal deadline is May 31.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to anyone who was applying for a controlled hunt or buying a fishing license,” said department director Steve Huffaker.

Logan Pass road opens

The Logan Pass section of Glacier National Park’s historic Going-to-the-Sun Road opened for the season on Sunday.

Once the alpine section of the Sun Road opens across the Continental Divide at Logan Pass (elevation 6,646 feet), visitors may travel the entire 50-mile National Historic Landmark road between St. Mary and West Glacier, 24 hours a day, unless conditions require temporary restrictions because of hazardous road and/or weather conditions.

The Logan Pass visitor center should be open by the weekend. All trails in the Logan Pass area are currently covered by snow.

June 8 is the average opening date for Logan Pass. The earliest Logan Pass opening occurred on May 16, 1987. The latest opening was June 28, 2002.

Lower Snake chinook season ends

Spring chinook salmon season on the Lower Snake River, from Lewiston upstream about 30 miles to Heller Bar, was closed on Monday.

In the first four weeks of that season, 100 salmon were kept by anglers, 74 caught and released, and 6,600 hours of angler effort expended, Idaho Fish and Game officials said.

The season on the southern end of Hells Canyon, from the Dug Bar boat ramp upstream to Hells Canyon Dam, remains open, as well as seasons in the Clearwater River drainage, Lower Salmon and Little Salmon rivers.
