Hillyard greets summer with salsa dancing, picnic

Spokane City/County Youth Department and the Hillyard Baptist Church are celebrating the start of summer by hosting a free community picnic, Summer Salsa.

Learn a few new salsa dance moves, enjoy music and a barbecue. Festivities are from 4 to 7 p.m. June 10 in Sharpley-Harmon Park.

Booth space will be available for groups to publicize their upcoming summer events.

Heather Adams from the Spokane City/County Youth Department and the Rev. John Dotson of Hillyard Baptist Church hope this celebration is the beginning of a new tradition in Hillyard.

“There are a lot of activities available in the summer time that the community may not be aware of, and we hope this event is the first of many more to promote such activities. We’re really excited that we can provide something like this,” said Adams.

Health care, summer camps, recreational activities and family services are among the resources expected to be showcased at Summer Salsa.
