The Spokesman-Review

Devil Rays 5, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Aubrey Huff put Tampa Bay ahead with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and the Devil Rays beat the Twins. Held hitless for five innings by Twins starter Johan Santana, the Devil Rays rallied to win a road series for the first time since last Aug. 26-28 at Seattle. Lew Ford hit a leadoff home run for Minnesota, which has lost 10 of its last 14 – and five of seven to last-place Tampa Bay.

Yankees 5, Orioles 2: At New York, Gary Sheffield snapped a seventh-inning tie with a two-out double, and Javier Vazquez pitched the Yankees to a victory for another sweep of Baltimore. The Yankees own the Orioles, winning eight straight meetings dating to last season and 45 of their past 62 games against Baltimore.

Royals 9, Tigers 6: At Detroit, Carlos Beltran had three hits and four RBIs to lead Kansas City over the Tigers. Dennys Reyes (2-0) remained unbeaten in six starts this season despite giving up five runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. Jeremy Affeldt finished for his fifth save in six tries.

Angels 5, Indians 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Raul Mondesi homered and threw out a runner at the plate to help the Angels beat Cleveland. Anaheim got a two-run triple from Jose Guillen to hand A.L. ERA leader Cliff Lee his first loss of the season.

Athletics 2, Blue Jays 1 (11): At Oakland, Calif., Jermaine Dye’s sacrifice fly with one out in the 11th inning scored Eric Byrnes with the winning run, and the Athletics won their third extra-inning game in as many days, beating Toronto.
