Take your pick: thriller or romance

Joel Brown New York Times Syndicate

A couple of original cable productions are tonight’s only new shows outside the heinous-reality category.

On Sci Fi at 9, it’s the premiere of the four-part miniseries “5 Days to Midnight.” Timothy Hutton stars as a physics professor who learns that he’s going to be murdered in five days. The people close to him may not be what they seem, but he doesn’t know how to change history’s course without causing more problems.

It’s a thriller, but don’t expect to be exactly bowled over.

At the same time on Lifetime, Kathleen Quinlan stars in a romance with a cyber twist. In the premiere movie “Perfect Romance,” she’s a mom who goes online as her daughter to land the girl a man. (How did people find dates before the Internet?)

But, of course, the guy she turns up — well, you can guess the rest.

Hey, it’s June, you were expecting “War & Remembrance?”

“For Love or Money,” NBC at 9: In the two-hour premiere, 16 women and the bachelor arrive unaware that they’re playing “For Love or Money.” But slowly the stakes are revealed. Trashy.

“Two and a Half Men,” CBS at 9:30: The boys stand up to Mom. Some cocktails may be involved. Repeat.

CSI: Miami,” CBS at 10: The one witness to a murder may not hold up on the stand. Repeat.
