Dean McIntosh
Kettle Falls, Wash.
Funeral for Dean McIntosh, 73, will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Kettle Falls Middle School. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McIntosh, who was born in Richland, died Thursday.
He lived in Richland during his elementary school years and moved to Kettle Falls as a freshman in high school. He graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1948. He attended Eastern Washington College of Education for two years.
He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was a storekeeper second class on the LSMR 412.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned home to Kettle Falls, where he began working at McIntosh Hardware store with his father.
He married Rowena Cage in 1959, and a year later they purchased the hardware business. They continued to operate the store until 1995, when it was purchased by his son and daughter-in-law.
Mr. McIntosh served on the Kettle Falls Fire Department for 50 years and also served as chief of both the city and Stevens County Fire District.
He was a charter member of the Kettle Falls Gun Club and a member of the Kettle Falls American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lions Club.
He was voted the first “Town Grouch” in Kettle Falls.
Mr. McIntosh enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and spending time at his lake cabin.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deana McIntosh of Spokane and Michawn Vining of Colville; a son, Robert McIntosh of Kettle Falls; and seven grandchildren.

Marcine Deife
Spokane
Funeral for Marcine D. Deife, 77, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Church in Odessa, Wash. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Deife, who was born in Odessa, died Friday. She was a former longtime resident of Odessa and moved recently to the Spokane area.
She graduated from Odessa High School in 1945 and graduated with honors from Washington State University in 1949. She obtained her master’s degree from Eastern Washington University in 1972.
Mrs. Deife taught history and political science at Spokane Community College.
She was a lifelong member of Heritage Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as a church deacon. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and served as a regional provincial leader for chapters in the Pacific Northwest and Canada.
Mrs. Deife was active in local and state politics and became a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1972.
She was past president of the Odessa Readers Club and a member of the PEO.
She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and hearts, and gardening.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert; six children, Linda Deife of San Diego, Julie Deife of Albuquerque, N.M., William Deife of Odessa, Mark Deife of Seattle, Jan Stevenson of Lind, Wash., and Jean Lewis of Minneapolis; two brothers, Herb Hardung of Spokane and Lavene Hardung of Nevada; a sister, Lucille Gustafson of Port Angeles, Wash.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Norman Inman
Medical Lake
Visitation for Norman Harold Inman, 73, will be today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Inman, who was born in Deer Park, died Wednesday. He was a resident of Medical Lake for 37 years.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he retired in 1967 after more than 20 years of service in the Air Force.
He retired in 1993 from Eastern State Hospital.
Mr. Inman was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the El Katif Shrine, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; a son, Harold Inman; a daughter, Donna Sealock; and two grandsons.

Betty (Johnson) Skiles
Spokane Valley
Memorial service for Betty Jean (Johnson) Skiles, 74, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Skiles, who was born in Rexburg, Idaho, died Friday.
She grew up and attended school in Rexburg and married James Skiles in 1950.
The couple lived in Burley, Idaho., until retiring and moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, in 1982.
Her husband died in 2002, and she moved to the Spokane Valley.
Mrs. Skiles worked in various occupations over the years, including as a hairdresser, bank teller, waitress, grocery clerk and doctor’s office receptionist.
She was a former member of the Burley Jaycettes and the Lady Elks. She was chairman of the Miss Cassia County Pageant and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mrs. Skiles enjoyed tole painting, gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include five children, Michael Skiles of Mesa, Ariz., Richard Skiles of Dallas, Rebecca Price of Grantsville, Utah, Kathleen Petersen of Spokane Valley and Nickie Jean Bacon of Spokane; two brothers, Perry and Steve; two sisters, Julia and Verna; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Roy Jordan
Spokane
Memorial service for Roy Jordan, 73, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jordan died Thursday.
He was born and raised in the Mount Spokane area and graduated from West Valley High School.
He served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War.
He married Patricia Caudill in 1954.
Mr. Jordan worked for Kaiser-Trentwood for 43 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the Inland Empire Water and Koi Club and the Steelworkers Union.
He had volunteered at Pratt and Holmes Elementary schools for the past nine years and was awarded the 2002 Volunteer of the Year Award.
He had also served as assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 436 in the 1960s.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Pat; two sons, Micheal Jordan of Valleyford, and Patrick Jordan of Greenacres; a daughter, Bonnie Mendoza of Spokane; three brothers, Amos and Dave Jordan, both of Spokane, and Jim Jordan of Milan; three sisters, Roxie Thieman of Spokane Valley, Ella Lindoff of Milan and Shirley Stentz of Spangle; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Esther Haugen
Spokane
Funeral for Esther G. Haugen, 78, will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Haugen, who was born in Crow Rock, Mont., died Saturday.
She attended teachers schools in Dillon, Mont., and at the College of Great Falls. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Washington University in Cheney and completed a master’s degree from Whitworth College.
A teacher for 32 years in Montana, Idaho and Washington, she taught more than 1,000 children.
Mrs. Haugen worked for Spokane Public Schools and the Mead School District, from which she retired in 1982.
She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, the Spokane Teachers Credit Union, Eagles Lodge and WASA.
She was well-known for her arts, crafts, quilting, cooking and oil painting, for which she won numerous awards.
Survivors include two daughters, Maureen Williams of Chattaroy and Janet Agre of Spokane; a son, Bill Light of Chattaroy; two sisters, Lydia Duram, and Jody Howald, both of Spokane; three brothers, Robert Schauer of Vancouver, Melvin Schauer of Desert Air, Wash., and Arthur Schauer of Libby, Mont.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Afton Vaughan
Lewiston
Service for Afton Smith “Ted” Vaughan, 96, will be at a later date. Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Chapel in Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vaughan, who was born in Linden, Idaho, died May 29 from natural causes.
He graduated from Gold Hill School in Linden in 1921, and in 1929 he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge and Building Division that was headquartered in Spokane.
He married Iris Keeler in 1935, and they traveled throughout the Pacific Northwest while he worked for the railroad.
The couple settled in Spokane in 1951, and Mr. Vaughan continued his employment with Union Pacific until retiring in 1972.
He moved to Lewiston in 1975.
Mr. Vaughan was a member of the Golden Age Eagles of Spokane, and the Jolly Goodfellows of Lewiston.
He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, camping, fly-fishing, hunting, picking huckleberries, spending time at the lake, and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, who lives in California; two children, Gail Graefe of California and David Vaughan of North Dakota; four grandchildren, Brian, John, DJ and Ashley; and one great-grandson, Collin Graefe of California.
Ronald Triplett
Spokane
Visitation for Ronald Jean Triplett, 81, will be today from noon to 8 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
Mr. Triplett, who died Friday, was born in St. Maries.
He worked at the Ridpath Hotel for more than 61 years, starting out as a front desk clerk. He held numerous other positions at the Ridpath, including chief engineer, and continued to work there with his son, Randy, until his death.
He enjoyed spending time at his lake cabin and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, May; a daughter, Donna Swann; two sons, Randal and Thomas Triplett; a twin brother, Donald Triplett; two sisters, Lily Sorenson and Leona Carlson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jelica (Hancic) Tuskan
Rathdrum, Idaho
Viewing for Jelica (Hancic) Tuskan, 81, will be Thursday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene with graveside service at 3 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Tuskan, who was born in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, died Saturday.
She lived in Yugoslavia and was a homemaker until immigrating to the United States in 1985.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Mrs. Tuskan enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Branko Tuskan of Rathdrum; a daughter, Anna Crofford of Lincoln, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Antun and Angelina.
Patricia (Glowczynski) Wear
Spokane Valley
Rosary for Patricia A. (Glowczynski) Wear, 60, will be today at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Otis Orchards. Memorial service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Wear, who died Thursday, was born in Milwaukee. She was a 39-year resident of Spokane Valley.
She taught religious education classes and was active in the Legion of Mary.
She also participated in prayer groups and attended several religious retreats.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Lloyd; four children, David Wear of Spokane, Michele Winegarner of Rochester, Wash., Linda McBride of Chattaroy and Joseph Wear of Spokane Valley; and two grandchildren.
Margaret (Ernst) Drake
Spokane
No service will be held for Margaret Kathrine (Ernst) Drake, 89. Neptune Society handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Drake, who was born in Los Angeles, died May 28.
She grew up in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School in 1931.
She attended Kinman Business University.
Mrs. Drake worked as a secretary at The Crescent and was a caregiver and companion for several years.
She was an avid bridge player.
Her husband, Arnold Drake, died earlier.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Vickers of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a son, Mike Drake of Medical Lake; and two grandchildren.
Nancy Hargrave
Spokane
No service will be held for Nancy Hargrave, 55, at her request. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Hargrave, who died May 31, was a resident of Spokane for 26 years. She was born in Medford, Ore., but moved to Elk as an infant.
She graduated from Riverside High School in 1967.
She worked as a beautician for more than 35 years. She also was a part-time independent Avon sales representative and a three-year member of the Avon Presidents Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Heidi Pratley of Medical Lake, and Shannon Craig and Jodi Nuffer, both of Spokane; her mother, Opal Shoemaker of Elk; three sisters, Darlene Bilger of Spokane, Laura Gill of Elk and Anna Koesel of Deer Park; four brothers, Ron Shoemaker of Adams Center, N.Y., Art Shoemaker of Wheaton Ill., Rollin Shoemaker of Waltham, Mass., and Floyd Shoemaker of Elk; and five grandchildren.

Pearl (Koski) April
Sandpoint
Memorial service for Pearl Marie (Koski) April, 84, will be today at 1 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint.
Mrs. April, who was born in Northport, Wash., died Thursday.
She married Jim April in 1935, and the couple lived in North Idaho for many years.
She was a caretaker for several elderly Finnish friends and also served as an English interpreter for area Finnish people.
Mrs. April was active in bingo and several bowling teams and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for more than 50 years.
She enjoyed traveling, especially to Reno and Jackpot, Nev., camping, and picking huckleberries. As a baseball fan, she enjoyed Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners games.
She move to Valley Vista Care Center nine years ago.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include three children, Jim April Jr. of Walla Walla, Nanci Tullos of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Pat Sauer of Sandpoint; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mary (Kauffman) Cochrane
Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Mary S. (Kauffman) Cochrane, 83, will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Cochrane, who was born in Colville, died Friday.
She was a longtime resident of the Cataldo area, where she enjoyed watching the wildlife and growing flowers and vegetables.
Mrs. Cochrane was married to Marshall Cochrane, and he preceded her in death.
For the past 10 years she traveled the Northwest extensively.
Survivors include two children, Jack Cochrane and Carol Grenfell; three grandsons, Brian, David and John; and four great-grandchildren.

Donald Schuler
Spokane
Vigil for Donald Robert Schuler, 70, will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Schuler, who was born in St. Cloud, Minn., died Thursday. He was a resident of Spokane for 19 years.
He worked for P.H. Bowman and Co. as a sheet metal fabricator in Seattle for 30 years, returning to Spokane after retirement.
He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rachel; four daughters, Theresa Ninnemann and Michelle Stull, both of Spokane, Frances McKee of Greeley, Colo., and Berdie Lobdell of Deer Park; a sister, Jacqueline Schuler of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Leroy Smith
Medical Lake
Graveside service for Leroy Smith, 57, was Monday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith, who died May 28, was born in Tampa, Fla.
His family came to Amber, Wash., in 1949 from Florida.
He attended school in Cheney.
Mr. Smith enlisted in the Army in 1968 and served a tour in Vietnam, where he was a helicopter door gunner. He received honors for saving troops under fire.
He owned a print shop.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly; two sisters, Lillian Powers and Ellen Billoups; and one grandson.
