Glen Moosman
Spokane Valley
Funeral for Glen R. Moosman, 77, was Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,10th Ward Chapel, in the Spokane Valley.
Mr. Moosman, who was born in Smithfield, Utah, died May 31.
After graduating from North Cache High School, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge, he married ReNia Cronquist in 1947.
Mr. Moosman graduated from Utah State University with a degree in civil engineering and worked for the Department of Interior in Palisades and Burley, Idaho.
He then worked at the Corps of Engineers in Walla Walla from 1951 until his retirement in 1983 as chief of the estimating division. He was responsible for projecting the government’s expected costs for all the dams built on the Snake and Columbia rivers.
After his retirement he worked as a private consultant.
In 1994 he was named to the Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees by the Corps of Engineers for his services as chief negotiator for construction of two Air Force bases built in Israel and his work as an expert cost estimator and negotiator in South Korea and China.
He was also recognized for developing a manual that the Corps of Engineers adopted for use in all construction contracts in the United States, Puerto Rico, Kwajalein Islands, the Middle East and Africa.
Mr. Moosman enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking.
He held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishop and counselor in the Walla Walla Stake Presidency.
He and his wife moved to the Spokane Valley in 1985.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven Ray of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Larry Kent of Spokane Valley; a daughter, Janet Jenkins of Spokane Valley; a brother, Kenneth Moosman of Bountiful, Utah; a sister, LaDean Robinson of St. George, Utah; and five grandchildren.
Robert Thom
Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Robert H. Thom, 67, will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the Yates Hayden Chapel Gathering Center.
Mr. Thom, who was born in Harvey, N.D. , died Monday.
He grew up and attended school in Coeur d’Alene and Hayden, Idaho, before moving to Greenacres.
Mr. Thom married Laura Hammeren in 1958, and the couple lived in Coeur d’Alene.
He worked for Kaiser Aluminum and served with the Idaho National Guard for three years.
Mr. Thom then worked for two seasons for the Forest Service before joining the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. He retired as a captain after 25 years.
During his retirement he drove a school bus for 12 years.
Mr. Thom enjoyed trap and skeet shooting. He liked to mentor beginners in the sport.
Mr. Thom enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Laura; two daughters, Debra Smith of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Becky Latham, of North Pole, Alaska; his mother, Velma Thom of Spokane; four brothers, Herb and Danny Thom, both of Spokane, Roger Thom of Hayden Lake, and David Thom of Portland; three sisters, Diane Thom of Spokane, Marie Storment of Kent, Wash., and Nancy Thom of Rowlett, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Nancy Taylor
Spokane
Memorial service for Nancy Jo Taylor, 54, will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Valley Methodist Church.
Mrs. Taylor, who was born in San Angelo, Texas, died Sunday.
She graduated from West Valley High School in 1967 and Eastern Washington State College in 1972. She received a master’s degree at Whitworth College. Mrs. Taylor taught in the Mead School District and retired after 29 years of service.
She was inducted into “Teachers of America Who’s Who.”
She enjoyed boating on Lake Roosevelt and traveling with a fifth-wheel trailer on trips around the United States. She also enjoyed playing golf, competitive gaming, fishing, cross-country skiing, inline sakting and playing games.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Wayne; two sons, David and Travis Taylor; a brother, David Greaves; and one grandson.
Martha (Lewis) Bockstruck
Spokane Valley
Memorial service for Martha E. (Lewis) Bockstruck, 91, will be today at 10 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.
Mrs. Bockstruck, who was born in Turner, Wash., died Friday.
She graduated from Finley High School in Washington in 1929 and married Troy Bockstruck in 1931.
While her husband served with the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II, Mrs. Bockstruck provided for her family of four young children,
The couple settled in Spokane in 1953 and moved to Hauser Lake, Idaho, in 1964.
Her husband died in 1974, and she returned to live in Spokane.
Mrs. Bockstruck had served as a volunteer at Spokane Valley Hospital and also provided occasional child care for her grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, Barbara Bossuyt and Gayle Garcia, both of Spokane, and William “Bill” Bockstruck of Harrison, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jane (Wiese) Anderson
Spokane Valley
Service for Jane A. (Wiese) Anderson, 89, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.
Mrs. Anderson, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday at Sunshine Gardens in Spokane Valley, her home since 1999.
Her parents died in 1919, leaving her and her siblings orphaned. An aunt brought them to the Hutton Settlement, where Mrs. Anderson resided until her graduation from West Valley High School in 1933.
She was known as “Baby Jane.” as she was among the first children in the settlement and was the first child carried by Levi Hutton into the home.
She attended business school and was employed by the Army in California and later for attorneys in Southern California.
In 1945 she married William Anderson. Following his death in 1974 she returned to Spokane.
Survivors include the Wiese family members.

Loretta ‘Lorrie’ Yates
Spokane
Memorial service for Loretta “Lorrie” Beatrice Yates, 58, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at North Hill Christian Church. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Yates, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Thursday. She was born in Seattle.
She graduated from Rogers High School in 1963 and worked as a secretary for LeMasters and Daniels for 10 years.
Before she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Miss Yates trained thoroughbred horses at Playfair Race Track.
Miss Yates was a caretaker to the elderly and her friends who had MS.
Two years ago she initiated the North Side Support Group for MS patients.
She enjoyed crafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Duran of Auburn, Wash.; her mother, Myrtle Yates, a sister, Ramona Triber, and a brother, John Yates, all of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Violet ‘Polly’ Thon

Funeral for Violet Alice “Polly” (Mckelvey) Thon, 84, will be today at 11 a.m. at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Mrs. Thon, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.
She attended Bryant Elementary School, Havermale Middle School and North Central High School.
She held several odd jobs, including working in the Sacred Heart Hospital kitchen, which led to her being hand-picked to be a part of a pilot open-heart surgery team on which she worked for 24 years until her retirement.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Floyd; two daughters, Karen Prideaux of Renton, Wash., and Donna Froelich; two sons, Norman and Terry Bowers; two stepchildren, Linda Tylock and Lloyd Thon; two sisters, Faye Toomy of Hamel, Minn., and Lorraine Coe; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vera Rojan
Spokane
Memorial service for Vera Rojan, 92, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rojan, who died Sunday, was born in Moscow, Idaho.
She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1935.
She taught English and coached girls basketball at the high school in Athol, Idaho. She later taught in Hope, Idaho, where she married Chester Rojan.
During World War II, they lived in Farragut, Idaho, before moving to Kodiak, Alaska.
In 1948 they moved to Spokane, where Mrs. Rojan was a substitute teacher for Spokane Public Schools.
She enjoyed genealogy and was active in the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington.
Her husband died in 2000.
Survivors include three children, Vicki Ball of Coeur d’Alene, Jack Rojan of Greenacres and Mike Rojan of Spokane; a sister, Ida Weyerman of Beaverton, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Irene (Archer) Nelson
Oldtown, Idaho
Memorial service for Irene Elizabeth (Archer) Nelson, 84, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport.
Mrs. Nelson died June 1.
She was born in Cottonwood Falls, Kan., and her family moved to Wilbur, Wash., where she attended first through 11th grades. She then moved to Diamond Lake, Wash., and graduated in 1937 from Newport (Wash.) High School.
She married Ole Nelson in 1938.
During World War II, she followed her husband from base to base until his squadron shipped out to Italy. After the war the couple made their home in Oldtown.
Mrs. Nelson worked at Akers Drugstore and Ponderosa Cafe, both in Newport.
She was a volunteer for the Idaho Hill Election Board.
She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and hiking.
Survivors include her husband; and two sisters, Barbara Freeman and Waneta Lingelbach, both of Priest River.

Beatrice (Jesmore) Conner

No service will be held for Beatrice A. (Jesmore) Conner, 89, at her request.
Mrs. Conner, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died May 29.
She graduated from North Central High School in 1934 and worked as a housekeeper for many years for the YWCA, retiring in 1989. She had also worked as a custodian for Orchard Prairie School.
She married Clyde Conner in 1945. He died in 1954.
Mrs. Conner enjoyed creative writing and wrote many stories for family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Colleen Geffre, a son, Donald Conner, and a brother, Burt Jesmore, all of Spokane; and a sister, Bonnie Spaulding of Anaconda, Mont.
Ronald Woods
Otis Orchards
Memorial service for Ronald G. Woods, 63, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mr. Woods, who was born Tacoma, died Saturday. He was a resident of Spokane County for most of his life.
He married Pat Costello in 1967.
Mr. Woods was a supervisor of 7-Up in Coeur d’Alene for several years. After working at 7-Up, he purchased Rainier Distributors in Coeur dAlene. He then developed two storage units in Otis Orchards and was involved with property management.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dan and Douglas Woods, and a sister, Pat Kern, all of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Norma Meuli
Endicott, Wash.
Graveside service for Norma L. Meuli, 101, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Endicott Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Meuli, a longtime resident of Endicott, died Friday.
Born in Milwaukee, she grew up in Milwaukee and Door County, Wis.
Before her marriage to William Meuli in 1927, she worked as a telephone operator. After they were married, they moved to Endicott, and she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include a son, William Meuli of Sunnyvale, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Paul Carter
Newport, Wash.
Funeral for Paul William Carter, 84, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Burial will be at Newport Cemetery.
Mr. Carter, who was born in Caney, Okla., died Saturday.
After obtaining his education at schools in Binger, Okla., he enlisted in the Army in 1942. While serving in the Army, he married Ethyle Leikauf in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1945 at Camp Beale, Calif.
He then began his career as a machinist, working for Aerojet in California. After retiring in 1982, he worked a short time as a commercial fisherman near Moss Landing, Calif. In 1984 he moved to Newport.
Mr. Carter was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and playing pool.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, MaryLou Marshall and Terry Littleton, and two sons, Paul Carter Jr. and Wayne Carter, all of Newport; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Myrna Cliff
Spokane
Memorial service for Myrna Ann Cliff, 63, will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cliff, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Friday.
She moved to Spokane and attended the Sacred Heart School of Nursing. She was a nurse for more than 40 years, with 26 at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
As an officer in the Army Reserve, Mrs. Cliff served during Desert Storm in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia.
She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching.
Survivors include two sons, David and Michael Cliff; a daughter, Jennifer Hall; her father, Claire Martin; a sister, Linda Camp; and one grandchild.
Sandra Johnson
Spokane
Graveside service for Sandra Johnson, 46, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Johnson, who was born in Sidney, Mont., died June 2. She was a resident of Spokane for 24 years.
She graduated from Havre (Mont.) High School in 1975 and received an Associate of Arts degree from Spokane Community College in 1986.
Ms. Johnson worked as a telephone operator for Qwest for 17 years.
She was a member of Faith Bible Church. She enjoyed skiing and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include a son, Tony Bear of Spokane; and two granddaughters.
E.L. Jordan

Service for E. L. “Grandpa Roy” Jordan, 73, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Pines Mausoleum in Spokane Valley. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jordan, who was born on Mount Spokane, died Thursday.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and worked at Kaiser Trentwood for 43 years, retiring in 1994. He then was a volunteer for nine years at Pratt and Holmes Elementary School.
He was actively involved in the Inland Empire Water Garden and Koi Society as a board member and editor.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Pat; two sons, Mike and Patrick; a daughter, Bonnie Mendoza; three brothers,three sisters, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Donald ‘Spike’ Norton
Usk, Wash.
Graveside service for Donald C. “Spike” Norton, 74, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Newport Cemetery, Newport, Wash. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Norton, who was born in Cheney, died Sunday.
In 1948 he graduated from Cusick (Wash.) High School, and married Gail Zigler on June 6 that year.
Mr. Norton worked 25 years as a logger until moving back home in 1972 to work on the family ranch.
