Red Sox 1, Padres 0: In Boston, Pedro Martinez outpitched David Wells with eight innings of two-hit ball to help the Red Sox beat San Diego.
Yankees 2, Rockies 1: In New York, Javier Vazquez (7-3) won his fourth straight start, retiring his first 13 batters, striking out six and giving up five hits in seven-plus innings. Jason Giambi hit a two-run single as the Yankees won for the 12th time in 14 games. .
Blue Jays 7, Dodgers 1: In Toronto, Ted Lilly (5-2) won his fifth straight decision and Howie Clark hit his first major league home run and drove in a career-high four runs. Lilly hasn’t lost in nine starts since April 21.
Diamondbacks 8, Orioles 1: In Baltimore, Randy Johnson (8-4) won his fifth straight start, allowing one run and three hits in seven innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Sidney Ponson (3-7) gave up six runs, five earned, and 11 hits over seven-plus innings.
Braves 4, Tigers 3: In Atlanta’s first visit to Detroit, Danny Patterson (0-3) made a 10th-inning throwing error that allowed the go-ahead run to score following Mark De Rosa’s double.
Giants 7, Devil Rays 3: In St. Petersburg, Fla., Michael Tucker hit a two-run homer, and Barry Bonds drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh, then added a RBI single in the ninth. The Giants won for the fourth time in five games and improved to a major league-best 15-5 since May 18.
Marlins 7, Indians 5: In Cleveland, Miguel Cabrera and Damion Easley each homered off the left-field foul pole with two outs in the ninth for Florida.
Royals 4, Expos 2: In Kansas City, rookie Zack Greinke (1-1) pitched seven shutout innings for his first major league victory, and Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer for the Royals. Greinke, at 20 the youngest player in the majors, dropped his ERA in four starts to 1.73.
White Sox 14, Phillies 11: In Chicago, Juan Uribe and Paul Konerko both homered twice to help the Sox overcome a pair of three-run homers by Jim Thome. Frank Thomas and Carlos Lee also connected for Chicago.
Twins 2, Mets 1: In Minneapolis, pinch-hitter Michael Cuddyer hit a game-winning RBI infield single in the ninth for Minnesota.
A’s 10, Reds 6: In Oakland, Ken Griffey Jr. failed to homer for the second straight game, and Damien Miller tied a career high with five RBIs to lead the Oakland Athletics to their fourth straight victory.
Brewers 1, Angels 0 (17): Scott Podsednik’s double to deep right with two outs in the top of the 17th inning scored Craig Counsell from first base as Milwaukee won at Anaheim. The Angels pitching staff tied a major league record, combining for 26 strikeouts.
Pirates at Rangers, ppd. rain: The game between the Pirates and Rangers will be made up Thursday, a scheduled off day for both teams.
