Hints from Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Several weeks ago, I was traveling to my in-laws’ when I found myself in horrible traffic due to a tornado that had just come through the area — debris was everywhere. I stopped at my daughter’s house and waited for the storm to pass. When I went back to my car to leave, I discovered I had a flat tire. I wasn’t sure how to change it, but my daughter knew how.

Later, my daughter was telling a friend’s father about the experience, and he wondered if his daughter knew how to change a tire. He decided to take her for a drive into the country and, with no help around, made his daughter change a tire. She now knows how!

We need to teach our daughters the same things we expect our sons to know, especially about cars. — Diana Nichols, Terre Haute, Ind.
