Thursday’s interleague games

The Spokesman-Review

Yankees 10, Rockies 4: At New York, John Flaherty hit a grand slam and Jose Contreras got through seven shaky innings to lead New York past Colorado. After the erratic Contreras wasted a three-run lead, Flaherty singled home the go-ahead run and followed up with his third career slam in New York’s 13th straight interleague win.

Expos 8-7, Royals 0-2: At Kansas City, Mo., Tony Batista homered twice and Sun-Woo Kim (3-2) pitched 41-3 perfect innings in relief of an injured Tomo Ohka, leading Montreal to doubleheader sweep. Zach Day (5-6) pitched a six-hitter in the opener for his second career shutout. Ohhka was hit by a line drive from Carlos Beltran in the third inning and will probably be out three months.

Tigers 7, Braves 4: At Detroit, held hitless by Russ Ortiz until the sixth inning, Detroit rallied for a victory over Atlanta. Carlos Pena hit a two-run double and Dmitri Young singled in the go-ahead run for the Tigers, who took two of three in the series.

Red Sox 9, Padres 3: At Boston, Nomar Garciaparra’s two-run double highlighted a five-run fifth inning, and Curt Schilling pitched Boston past San Diego. Manny Ramirez hit a long, two-run home run, and Pokey Reese had a solo shot on his 31st birthday for Boston, which has won four of five. David Ortiz matched a career high with four hits.

Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 1: At Toronto, Kazuhisa Ishii pitched eight sharp innings, Adrian Beltre and Juan Encarnacion hit consecutive home runs and Los Angeles ended a three-game skid with a victory over Toronto. Ishii (8-3) won his third straight start for the Dodgers, who salvaged the last game of the series after scoring just one run in the first two.

Diamondbacks 3, Orioles 0: At Baltimore, rookie Daniel Cabrera took a perfect game into the seventh inning, but Steve Finley hit a two-run home run and Arizona got six shutout innings from Casey Fossum in a victory over Baltimore. Cabrera (3-2) retired his first 18 batters.

Marlins 4, Indians 1: At Cleveland, Carl Pavano shut down Cleveland into the ninth inning and Alex Gonzalez hit a two-run home run for Florida. Pavano (6-2) gave up one run and four hits in 82-3 innings to win for the fourth time in five decisions.

Devil Rays 5, Giants 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Victor Zambrano took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against San Francisco, and Tampa Bay held on to win an interleague series for the first time in nearly two years.

Rangers 9-10, Pirates 7-4: At Arlington, Texas, Kenny Rogers earned his ninth win, Brad Fullmer hit a grand slam and Texas completed a doubleheader over struggling Pittsburgh. In the opener, Michael Young, Gary Matthews Jr. and Herbert Perry homered, and Texas took advantage of two Pittsburgh errors in the seventh inning to win.

Phillies-White Sox, ppd.: The game between Philadelphia and Chicago at Chicago was postponed by rain. No makeup date was announced.

Twins 3, Mets 2 (15): At Minneapolis, Michael Ryan’s one-out single in the 15th gave Minnesota the victory and a three-game sweep over New York. Angels 5, Brewers 4: At Anaheim, Calif., Jeff DaVanon capped a comeback from a four-run deficit with a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning and Anaheim ended a five-game losing streak by beating Milwaukee.

Thursday’s National League game

Cubs 12, Cardinals 3: Moises Alou hit a three-run home run and Derrek Lee had a two-run shot as Chicago tied the team’s modern record with 11 hits in the fourth inning, sparking a drubbing of St. Louis. innings.
