Parade of Paws: Spokane Human Society’s First Annual Dog Walk – Walk your dog or take a shelter animal out for a stroll at 9 a.m. beginning at the shelter, 6606 N. Havana, and benefit the Spokane Humane Society. The day’s events include prizes, contests, activities, and a dog therapist. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., admission is free. Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Spokane Network Meeting and Panel Discussion – Topic will be “Plots that Pop,” presented by Chris Crutcher, novelist; Kelly Milner Halls, magazine writer; and Verla Kay, picture book author; 10 a.m.-noon at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Dog Training Classes – Mandatory registration meeting for training classes through Spokane Dog Training Club, Inc., Wednesday, 7 p.m., 2620 N. Locust Road. Instruction includes puppy preschool, puppy kindergarten, home companion, competition obedience, jumping, rally, agility, flyball, herding and tracking. Railroad History Class Bike Tour – Dr. Charles Mutschler, Eastern Washington train historian, will lead a bike tour next Saturday along the former rail line that runs through Turnbull Wildlife Refuge, Cheney. Mutschler will discuss the development of Western railroads and in particular the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railroad. Class size is limited, reservations are required. Friends of the Spokane House Living History Fur Trade Encampment – Next Saturday and June 20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Spokane House Interpretive Center, 9711 W. Charles, Nine Mile Falls. Family Identification Plan – Presented by COPS Northwest, offers IDs for all children and other family members at risk. ID packets are available at COPS Northwest on the first Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will receive a computer disk copy of their photo and a fingerprint card.
