Loon Lake event will aid Wishing Star

The second annual Summer Festival benefit for the Wishing Star Foundation will be Saturday at Granite Point on Loon Lake, Wash.

The Wishing Star Foundation is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to area children with life-threatening illnesses.

The festival, to be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., includes craft booths, live music, a silent auction, a raffle, swimming and boating.

Admission is free; donations are requested.

Food will be available for purchase from the Longhorn Barbecue, and water recreational items will be available for rent through the park. A portion of the proceeds will be given to Wishing Star.

Various items will be included in the silent auction, including two $250 gift certificates to Walker’s Furniture.

Spaghetti and skate benefit

Come eat spaghetti and skate to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Saturday.

Planet Ice and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner with an evening of skating and on-ice games from 5 to 9 p.m. at Planet Ice, 3212 N. Eden Road, Spokane Valley.

Admission is $5 and includes meal, skate rental, raffle and events.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a nonprofit organization whose aim is to improve the quality of life of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma patients and their families by raising funds for research and patient services.

Team in Training is a sports training program, through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, that provides training for individuals interesting in participating in a whole or half marathon, a triathlon or a century (100-mile) bike ride.

Epilepsy Foundation contest

The Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho is looking for entrants for the foundation’s “Winning Kid” contest.

Children living with epilepsy in Idaho who are between the ages of 5 and 9 and who will not reach their 10th birthday before Jan. 1 are eligible.

The winner will represent the 6,000 children with epilepsy in Idaho and will attend various activities from August to July 2005.

Entries must include a recent photograph and a statement from a parent or guardian with an explanation of why the child would be a good “Winning Kid,” the nature of the seizure disorder, and how the child has lived with epilepsy.
